I think it’s probably correct strategy wise to just “do the right thing”

They’re essentially long junior devs asking Claude to set up podman

Agreed I think your strategy is optimal. This is what I landed on as well

Same lol. I set it to fable + ultracode and it ate my limit in a single prompt

When I contribute to OSS with AI I’m essentially engaging in a donation matching scheme where Anthropic matches 1 to 20 the dollar value invested (usually I can get ~2k of value per month on the $100 plan) in the open source project.

So any project that doesn’t accept AI PRs is really missing out on significant investment

You’re right, and it feels like these people saying otherwise either don’t use these tools professionally (and therefore can’t tell a difference between local/cloud models) or literally just haven’t tried running local models

As soon as I can buy hardware for less than 5k that runs an opus 4.6+/5.5 model locally I will do it instantly

He makes more money than you and you’re responding to his ai chatbot

Knower. Thank you. The point of all markets is to aggregate information.

Got laid off last year, took about 6 weeks to find something. Similar comp, slightly better WLB actually. Might have just gotten lucky but 3% sounds about right for most people I know

Yeah we moved to Claude a few months ago, mostly because the devs kept using it anyway. Altman stuff is interesting but at the end of the day you just go with whatever tool works

Yeah my CTO says similar things. I usually just tell him to add it to the backlog and move on. At the end of the day these tools save us 3-4 eng hires and that’s what the board cares about

I kinda agree with you but consider that the perf on apple silicon is so much better that you’re probably still better off using the gimped tablet thing.

The actual soln is to use oss stuff and aggressively send claude code into the weeds whenever you find a big, then upstream the fixes.

I switched from IntelliJ to emacs for this reason and it’s been great

he knows. that's why he said viscosity. reread it slowly

Is this kind of comment not just a tautological rebuttal to any criticism of emacs

Thank you. The guy being this upset about it is telling. The agent is in the right here and the maintainer got btfo; still going on whining about it days later

Happy to see investment in sbt and the stdlib

Sad to see code coverage tooling called out as something they’re spending money on

Happy to see scala get sponsorship

Because the marginal profit of scaling labor is zero or negative?

You actually bolster his point by using search as an example: search has been completely eaten alive by a better alternative (ai chat).
