> As well as blood transfusions, Johnson follows a strict daily routine that includes monitoring his body fat, heart rate variability, blood, stool samples, and the number of erections he has per night. Every day he also takes two dozen medicines at 5 a.m

This man is not mentally well...

Same, I'd smash it like it was offering me a million dollars. I cannot think of a single positive thing that has come out of the AI boom. It has been a net negative for all of society.

The same way subcontractors make money, they take a cut of the building cost. VC invests a billion on a five year contract, you take a million as your salary for those five years and use the rest to pay for construction and initial operating costs. If the data center isn't profitable, oh well, you got paid 5 million all the same. If it is profitable, well thats just a bonus.

The collection of the data is not whats of concern here. The issue is the use of the data in legal proceedings. Flock can gather all they want, but police accessing it and using it as evidence is where it rubs against the constitution.

Investors, thats what is driving it. AI is the only thing venture capital has cared about since 2022, so the people who earn fortunes from sucking on the VC teat are following the money. It doesn't matter if the data centers are worthless in five years, they will have extracted wealth from building them.

I was laid off in Q3 24. I knew it was coming because I had already been forced to take two weeks off from burnout when my brain just lost the ability to reason about code any more, so realistically it was a blessing. I decided that I wasn't going to even think about programming for at least a year, simply to let my brain heal.

It worked, I feel much better and started working on my own projects again, but now I feel like that gif from Community when Troy walks in with pizzas and the apartment is on fire. The state of the entire computing industry is strongly making me second guess if I want to continue in this career.

My wife and I are in a good enough place financially that I don't need to work for a long while, but... I dunno. There has to be a pretty significant course correction before I'm willing to enter those trenches again.

The sad thing is, this is the second time that my career of choice has evaporated out from under me (I was a projectionist in the 2000s). I don't know where I'm going to go from here.

I know the ACLU is involved, but for crying out loud, the very first thing they should have done after the first visit was call a lawyer, before he even got on a plane to come home.

> How long can you hemorrhage billions of dollars with no return.

Five years, judging by how long it took them to give up on metaverse

My mind immediately went to that one shot near the beginning of Tron where the cubicles stretch off into the distance of the building.

That was 1982

Exactly. Things were so good in the 90s that people were bored with it. We had an entire subgenre of film centered around the monotony of being middle class.

Outside of computing, Y2K was extremely hyped. We were entering the future!

Every time I read about this I find myself asking what the little people are doing, and articles never answer it.

Might as well ask "Does bacon make candy taste better?"

It depends on what you're putting it in!

It literally just requires filing an LLC or Corporation. There are several SaaS companies that will do it for you.

Perhaps its because a good chunk of us looked at wtf is going on in tech right now and said "nah, I think I'll go be a farmer now."
