I used Ghost.org in a project last year and love their business model (and obviously their product).

Completely open source software, but you can pay a reasonable amount for managed hosting and support. Plus obviously it supports the devs and new development.

A simple line to separate DIYers from anyone who wants the convenience, peace of mind, or to support the project itself. Would love to see more of this.

I agree they have to turn a profit.

I’m just baffled at their pitiful attempts at doing that the past few years. And how it’s now culminated into where we are this week.

2,000 employees. What are they even doing?

1) Every social network sells ads

Yes, but all other social networks are GOOD at it and make a fuck ton of money. That’s the issue. Reddit has had plenty of chances to turn profitable, but they can’t seem to figure it out. Now they’ve run down the checklist and apparently “kill 3rd party apps” is their newest brilliant idea to make money.

In comparison, Reddit has 2,000 staff.

Yes except it’s built out of metal and glass, so it’s definitely not light
