I request a webpage. Between the webserver and my screen, the page is injected with unrequested ads. The page has been hijacked by the browser itself. This is indefensible, full stop. It’s not 1998.

I am sorry to read that the value of BAT has fallen 80%. Sorry for the “greater idiots”; the vulnerable people who were persuaded to take part in the Brave/BAT scheme, and who have lost their life savings. And I have only contempt for those that exploited them.

No. Brave browser hijacks webpages that you view and injects their own adverts onto the webpage.

The webpage you requested is not the webpage you are shown, because of the man-in-the-middle attack.

Yes, the Brave browser removes a website’s adverts, and injects its own ads into webpages using a man-in-the-middle attack. It’s sketchy, grubby behavior, and is the reason why websites are starting to block the Brave browser.

I notice the BAT cryptotoken has lost lots of value recently. Perhaps that’s why there is lots of desperate Brave spam recently.

Until the pyramid scheme collapses and everyone loses their money.

The browser does a man-in-the-middle attack on webpages. It’s sketchy, dodgy and scammy. It was bad when they introduced it, but in 2022 it completely indefensible.

It uses a MITM attack to inject Cryptocurrency span into webpages. Sorry, it’s indefensible. Nobody is going to “get used to” the modern equivalent of viruses, especially when non-infected browsers are available.

web3 is not a “technical” thing, “distributed ledgers” etc. It’s a get-rich-quick thing, at the greater fools expense.

I suspect you are aware of this.

The number of people with genuine belief in web3 is SWAMPED by people hoping to make a quick buck from the “greater fool”’

Unfortunately it’s a “curate’s egg” situation, and anyone genuinely promoting web3 is indistinguishable from the grifters.

Are you able to list any reasons why HackerNews dislikes web3, beyond “they have sour grapes because they missed the market.”?

There are many many reasons, and if you are unable to think of any then perhaps you are in a propaganda bubble?

It’s not emotionality, it’s rationalism. web3 is a naked pyramid grift, and most people promoting it are hoping to get rich from the “greater sucker” or have been subsumed into a cult-type mindset.

HackerNews is a high-quality rational discussion medium. The problem is not with this community, it is with the propaganda bubble of web3.

It’s “corruption” by any credible meaning of the word. If the story is true then it’s a catastrophe for Meta.

Everything people say about Sweden on the Internet is wrong. It should be called “Sven’s Law” or something.

There are many low-quality populist websites which will be more receptive to your cringe one-liners. Someone already mentioned the R word, also suggest you try T.

Having to install an app to control volume does seem like something from the early 1990s (and I’m a mac guy).

That this functionality is not builtin is the most baffling MacOS design choice I have ever seen.

No, that hides the menu bar.

alt click doesn’t work. Try it. It does not work. Maybe occasionally it does, but mostly it just enlarges the screen a bit, in a random manner.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been using Mac for years and still don’t know how to make an application fullscreen like Windows does. The green button hides the menu bar, and alt clicking the green buttom makes the app bigger but doesn’t fill the whole screen.

Either I am stupid or Mac is bad at discoverability.
