Radiation from coal is probably not a problem: "These studies concluded that the maximum radiation dose to an individual living within 1 km of a modern power plant is equivalent to a minor, perhaps 1 to 5 percent, increase above the radiation from the natural environment"
The best thing about CRTs was holding a magnet near the screen to twist the electron beam. Gives you an intuitive understanding of the sideways force experienced in a magnetic field.
Liquid oils contain cis double bonds that will isomerize to trans when heated (no H required). Short cooking times will minimise this, or you can use a saturated fat like butter.
Traditional breeding may have reduced the nutritional content of plants, but GM can be used to produce plants that are nutritious and high yielding.
One study took wild tomatoes and used GM to increase yield:
"Compared with the wild parent, our engineered lines have a threefold increase in fruit size and a tenfold increase in fruit number. Notably, fruit lycopene accumulation is improved by 500% compared with the widely cultivated S. lycopersicum."

Unfortunately it's more expensive than just throwing waste into a hole in the ground.
