Hit movies don’t really seem to matter to Disney in the grand scheme of things. It’s more about selling merchandise of their already established brands.
Even though I’ve never regularly listened to JRE, I’m glad this deal let’s episodes be posted to YouTube. I don’t really log into many accounts, and that’s been the big thing preventing me from touching Spotify in years.
Admittedly, I’m a bit surprised that Spotify was willing to make this deal without exclusivity rights. Joe Rogan has a big enough pull that there’s pretty much a guaranteed audience that’ll be brought over. The only reason for distributing the show broadly would be for larger exposure, but JRE is already insanely popular; it’s not like they're dealing with something new here.
Overall, I think it’s a good deal for the listeners, just doesn’t make much sense on Spotify’s end.
Absolutely loved OC ReMix when I was younger. Their collection of remixes were some of the best. Still go back to listen to some of the old stuff from there sometimes.
