This. Good software can be made even when using Electron - just take a look at Visual Studio Code. It pains me during my work as a software developer how many times we have to cut edges, because companies want to minimize their expenses (and developers get in a habit of doing so even when they don’t have to).
This topic makes me glad I'm not a kid anymore and strengthens my antinatalism - if the world is so fucked that you need to watch your kids all the time and restrict them then what’s the point of bringing them here. Most of my psychological harms come from going to public school, I don’t think that unsupervised screen time harmed me that much.
What Second Life is missing is the decentralization and newer graphic/scripting engine. Creator of Second Life already tried to create VR metaverse with those issues solved and it didn't catch on.
People have too much of dopamine rush from the ordinary social media to get engaged in such complex projects. Second Life was an expection created in times where there was no social media and people were looking for alternative ways to pass time and were willing to invest their time in learning how to use Second Life (it is a quite complex creation tool and game client at the same time).
I do have inner voice but I don’t feel a constant need to use it, I can think and understand thoughts without it - actually, it’s hard for me to vocalize more complex thoughts. If I’d have to vocalize everything then my mental capacity would be severely limited. I suggest you to try to get rid of it and you’d surprised how much faster you can think in pure concepts.
It’s all about making money. Almost nobody in business department cares about the quality of software and its actual usefulness as long as its selling. It’s possible to sell shitty software and get high returns through manipulation and marketing.
