A while ago we were looking for tools to automate process documentation and get documentation, SOPs and how-to guides automatically out of the workflow screen recording, but most of the AI SOP generators we tried were too basic and generic (simple click here, click there instructions without any real context), so we ended up building our own tool, video2docs, and really focused on testing different use cases so it could generate context-aware guides instead of simply capturing clicks.

There is still an option to edit the output, because I believe that with any AI tool there should always be a final human review in case something needs to be refined, excluded, or adjusted. And of course, providing good input is important too - all these tools work much better when you create short and focused recordings and split the whole process into smaller processes instead of making one long recording.

It’s similar to giving a colleague a single page of instructions versus handing them an entire book and asking what they need to do based on it - guess in which case you’ll get a clearer and more accurate result.

Maybe this could be helpful for someone else, too.

Recently I got a problem with spending too much hours writing docs that describe our workflows, whether it's a how-to guide for a product user or a process walkthrough for a teammate.

And, what made it worse was that starting itself felt like a barrier, you open a blank doc, can't find the words, screenshot one step, write a sentence, get distracted, come back and have to re-orient yourself. So I was looking for a tool that could capture a workflow and convert it into written documentation automatically. Nothing quite fit, so my friend and I built video2docs.

You record your screen - just walk through the workflow like you'd show a colleague, and it breaks the screen recording into structured documentation automatically. Step titles, descriptions, screenshots pulled from the right moments.

The output is pretty accurate itself to use as a solid base, and if you need minor adjustments there's a built-in markdown editor to tweak wording or formatting. Reviewing and refining is much easier then starting from the scratch.

It's free to try, and we're actively looking for feedback, we'd love to hear what you think.

Thank you! yes, totally agree, but i think it is more important in case of demo videos and not the process recording -> documentation, where the written output is the biggest value.

That said, i still agree there might be some sensitive parts that gets into screenshots of the documentation, so in the future we plan to add some sensitivity detection and screenshot blurring options, but for now yes it is better to prepare clean environment. Thanks again for the thoughtful comment!

We recently automated a task that used to take some manual hours and was pretty boring itself - documentation and user how-to guides creation, since before the ability to use AI technology, this was pretty time-consuming thing to do. Now it takes around 15 minutes.

The workflow is simple: record your screen of a task, workflow or feature walkthrough (even without audio) -> get a step-by-step guide with titles, descriptions, and contextual screenshots out of it automatically, auto-translate, and edit the output if needed as in a regular doc before final export for help center or sending it to the user.

This automates the process and makes documentation much less painful, because you can start with a solid base and refine if needed instead of a blank page. We built our own tool based on this workflow, maybe will be useful for others, too.

Hi all, Together with my friend we built a tool to speed up how we create how-to guides for clients.

The idea is simple: you record your screen while doing a task (audio optional), upload the video, and it generates a structured step-by-step guide with screenshots. You can edit the steps before exporting.

Perfect for client or user how-tos and internal documentation.

Would love feedback from people who do onboarding, support, or agency work.
