Started on a Wikipedia wormhole and came across a small note about beaufighter T4800 and I knew nothing about it.
The story is interesting enough, not least as it's the pilot's own words, but the photo of the Grand Palais on the Champs-Élysées from below roof level is pretty impressive.
When i was growing up something similar happened in our town - over pressure caused by connecting a high pressure gas line to the local supply - police closed off the whole town and a few bits and pieces blew up/caught fire.
That was human error rather than failing infrastructure.
My initial thought in this case, before hearing about the underinvestment by the utility company, was SCADA kit tampering/hacking. Running the pressure slightly high would be a very similar approach to the spinning of centrifuges at slightly over speed - not immediately detectable but with serious consequences. Judging by the comments on this thread it looks more like ineptitude/negligence by the utility.
As someone on a phase 2 trial an interesting note is that I know I'm on the trial drug (it's not a double blind trial), I also know that the drug worked in animal and vitro trials.
Furthermore I know, from the trial literature, that a very similar drug works (the trial drug is an anti-PD-1 immunotherapy) well with the particular genetic markers on my tumours.
The trial is to assess the efficacy of this treatment, not run a comparison to other treatments, but having burnt through 2 rounds of chemo in short order to no effect it is more a comparison against that.
Whether the placebo effect is relevant is an interesting question because under the trial the treatment is, by necessity, more personalised.
Previous studies have shown that, essentially, human contact/interest adds to the placebo effect.
The app-before-this-one (before the server went down) was a reasonably competent bit of kit, basically a lift and shift of Lloyds, which when retired late last year became something with flashy animation on everything (animated log in place holder, 2FA selectors floating in from off screen - WHY!) but less functionality.

I was asked by a friend who is in the band if I had done any graphics work or was interested in doing anything for a music video.
Graphics are not something I have done before except [cough] years ago on the BBC Micro, which is where the 8-bit geometric graphics and code came from.
The conversion from the video of the singer to ASCII was done via ffmpeg to de-frame/re-frame the video and a hacked together C# program that works well enough[0] to convert each frame to letter of the right font, size, words/letters (which are the lyrics - the letters in each line are used for the ASCII rendering of the singer while that line is being sung).
The combination of the two sets of graphics into a far better music video was done by a guy called Chris Bate from FilmBee.
I've submitted this as there was a discussion[1] a few weeks ago about ASCII art being dead or alive while I was putting this together.
[0]'Well enough' - I couldn't get it to run and flat line all the CPUs when running parallel processing. I caused a catastrophic memory leak by modifying a couple of the methods thinking I'd improve something. I dread to think what it has done to the lifetime of the two SSD while it's been firing GBs of data at.

The email address used is not my spam email, it is, as far as I know not used on sign up does etc. - so how was it found (though I am aware of the extreme irony of calling an email address used on Facebook as a not for spam one)?

I didn't - I'd started off converting the videos to 8-bit colouring and in the process was experimenting with pixelisation and went off on a fairly extreme bit of a tangent.
I've been messing around with converting videos to ASCII for a side project - it's been a fun learning experience. Obviously I don't think ASCII art's going any where...
As of the latest update macOS has started to nag me to allow automatic updates, so I think the comparison is probably valid.
FWIW I told it No, for the same reason my Win10 laptop has been nagging me to update but I've not let it install for a month - until I've finished whatever work I'm doing I'm not going to let a possibly badly written patch stack the OS and leave me rebuilding the machine from scratch (yes - I'm looking at you Windows - TWICE) or dealing with whatever beta-level release macOS is going to throw out that breaks remote access etc. that I need on my build server.
I had the cursor skip on an older Dell model (not Ubuntu, Windows), but the cause might be the same - the Nub mouse buton (if that makes sense - the little finger mouse? What ever it's called) in the middle of the keyboard would pick up the slightest tap and move the cursor - I ended up disabling it and the problem went away; I've never really experienced it on any other laptop.
