I wrote a few bash scripts with my pi and a remote NodeJS server to capture timelapse photos of my jalapeno plant growing and compiled them with ffmpeg.

Could you please provide some elaboration on your comment? As it stands, it doesn't explain how that works or why you believe that, and I think others would find that valuable.

I completely agree that turning of notifications is incredibly valuable, and I do this myself. That being said, it's not that easy for many people who are tied to email or Slack or anything else.
If self control were as simple as throwing a switch, we'd all be Olympian heroes of might and mind, and apps/smart phones are just another example of a "utility" that preys on human weaknesses.
No one mentions that this isn't officially implemented until 2018. Don't go into interviews expecting this to be law, and definitely use the strategies that other users have pointed out.
