Agree with other comments that there is simply no specific replace for Soundcloud if you have a particular taste in electronic music. I've been a paying subscriber for years not bc i find the paid tier super compelling but bc i want them to not go under. Hope SC can find its way to sustainability

The fact that this outcome occurred proves the board's resolve & determination (stubbornness?) but not much else.

some important questions: - if Ilya had 4:2, why not just sit Sam down and work all this out in private? - why has the board been completely unable to explain themselves to OAI employees? to the public? - why not take a more neutral "parting ways" tone? - latest reporting suggests that the board is doing this without any outside council (legal or professional network). it seems absolutely bonkers to risk funding sources eg MSFT on a decision like this.

Came here to say the same. It's the only tool I'm comfortable creating visuals live / on-the-fly with

Very interesting, you've described me perfectly. Especially the amount of audible conversations. I actually talk outloud to myself quite a bit too when I'm trying to think through something.

A funny habit of mine is sometimes I'll go for a walk with my ear buds in (not playing anything) to give myself an 'excuse' to be having a conversation with myself

I think you're spot on here.

Some very obvious features are missing, but for a v1 launch the app runs smooth, feels clean, is easy to get started, and has a jovial early internet feel.

Meta will ship most every feature the average Twitter user would want in the next month or so and then it's game over.

Aside, it's amazing how Elon's antics over the last year (or many years) have somehow made Zuck seem both personable and competent

so agree here. i've used Pocketcasts and Spotify since my first smart phone. i have no philosophical opposition to Spotify acquiring exclusive content...whatever, play that game spotify. but end of the day, i want the best possible podcast experience, and you're not giving it to me. happy to keep them separate

Yep, same here in Australia. I never leave the house with more than my phone and I expect to tap & pay for absolutely everything. Even have cardless cash thru my bank's atm. and a digital license.

Visiting America feels like travelling back in time in this regard

> Apple has controlled the podcast industry through the iTunes podcast directory since day one.

> They ARE the podcast industry. And they’ve been open.

Hmmm is this really true? I've been listening to podcasts since 2012ish which puts me fairly early in the adoption curve and I've never used iTunes once (always been PocketCasts on Android).

Anyway, just another f'ing reason to NOT go all-in on Apple. Apple Podcasts kinda sucks? The few times I do use it as a directory to grab a link to send to a iOS-using friend, i just hate it. Search sucks, linking to a specific episode sucks, discoverability sucks.

I love my '22 M1 MBP I get from work, but it's the only Apple device I own. I just cannot stand this type of closed-system tactics, especially when their offering is so much worse than alternatives (don't get me started on iMessage or Safari)

If you're actually curious -- here is a 2.5hr podcast about the company's history: https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/tsmc

I'm about 25% through this book and struggling with it a bit. It's interesting, for sure, but it's kinda just going in one ear out the other for me. Don't feel like i'm learning or gaining new insight. Not to say I'm an expert -- anything but -- but don't have much to takeaway from it yet. Will trudge along...

1/ invest in relationship with your body. get a good exercise routine + nutrition + sleep. Exercise hard.

2/ see a therapist / psychologist / coach. it is amazing what a difference having someone to talk to can do to help reframe perspective

3/ find/start/rekindle a hobby that interests you and you kinda suck at. go deep down the rabbit hole and enjoy the experience of improving at it quickly

4/ invest in your mind; hope this doesn't come across as hippy-woo-woo but yoga and meditation. Sam Harris' app "Waking Up" goes deep on theory & practice. Yoga is such a fun/challenging form of exerise. Sounds like you can afford an at-home instructor :)

5/ journal! getting thoughts out of your mind onto paper helps to work through thoughts & feelings. a useful prompt a) how am I feeling? b) how do i want to feel? c) what will it take to get there. keep iterating on this (both in micro sense of day-to-day, and macro of finding your next passion.

Good luck <3

I'm an Android lifer and Apple's refusal to open iMessage is why I will not own an iPhone. That said, I'd willingly pay $5-10/mth for iMessage on Android. Apple has a number of services on Android now (including Apple Music & TV), it irritates me to no end they refuse to support this

Just pony up for Cleanshot - it's an absolute joy to use, extremely customisable and they ship updates at an impressive rate.

^^best answer in this thread. Use your network to find good trusted mentor(s): ideally someone closer to your age (quite senior) and someone closer to her age (recent college grad, a few years into their career).

your role can be more about supporting her curiosity and ensuring she doesn't over-index on any one piece of advice.

ps: glad you're asking this question. i shoe-horned myself into a finance role bc that's what my dad did and i lacked awareness to wonder what i wanted to do

Sam Harris has a brilliantly balanced take on this subject: https://youtu.be/GL2uFYi86kk

Memento mori doesn't mean every moment needs to be absolutely epic. But a mindful approach can alleviate daily stresses, concerns, fights etc. You're gonna die one day, so just relax and enjoy this moment, whatever you happen to be doing!
