I have Kobo H2O and it works great till this day. I charge it very rarly - maybe every 2-3 months. It reads everything I like. And it was one of the first with IP68 certification.
I would gladly use KDE - I like it, but this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162211 is still not fixed after so many years (and no - the title is not updated - it doesn't affect only remote media)
Ubuntu Gnome - works VERY well - if you enable the "window list" plugin for shell, it works as well as cinnamon.
You can also use some other distro like debian or fedora that also provides cinnamon.
