What..? Yet another tech company who normally is pro any current social justice hashtag actually doesn't give a fuck about human dignity when push comes to shove? Wild...
Maybe pick 1 or 2 newspapers you consider to be truthful to actually get a subscriptions for, besides using this addon.
I get it, there are newspapers out there you really don't check out that often, and they have no free articles per month or "purchase this article", and paying 20 dollars for a subscription for 2 articles a month at 10 different newspapers is a little much. But the more people don't pay for news, the more clickbaity and hyped up journalism will be.
As bad as this article makes AWS sound, it's actually the reason you should go with AWS over say Azure or GCP; when AWS goes down, its owners actually feel the pain with you, Microsoft and Google run their own stuff elsewhere...
I think the important distinction is that some of us test locally, test on staging then test on production, and others ONLY test on production. No matter how hard you try, no test environment can truly replicate production, but that doesn't mean you should do away with staging completely.
I understand the problem, not sure I agree with the solution yet, but maybe I'm missing something. Not really sure how else they can make sure people don't just borrow 10 books and never come back. Seems like instead they could've created a program which verifies inability to pay fine and waves them for people who legitimately can't pay it, but maybe they're looking at some data we don't have access to.
Something tells me this author went to an expensive school to study journalism and went on a trip abroad (or 2), and now doesn't know how to pay back all those student loans. Building wealth is still very much possible, there are many different communities online (FIRE, Dave Ramsey, and so on) where people are doing it, it just involves living a lifestyle that's abnormal for today's standards because consumerism has properly messed up our baseline.
Messed up people a long time ago created a very unfair pyramid with straight white men at the top and transgender black women at the bottom. And too many intelligent people today think the solution to that problem is to rotate that order, rather than to just do away with a pyramid altogether. I hope this is just an interim phase before we consider things like ethnicity and gender as arbitrary as hair color.
