yes but in an hyperinflationary scenario it won’t last long (laws are defined in pesos)

so it could be back to sub 800 soon

its normal now, everybody knows how to work with it - buy with credit payable in 6/12 months, take advantage of government credit to offset it (often such credits are below inflation)

Also buy street dollar (blue) with whatever you manage to save, etc - to sell it later to preserve value

At this point after many decades of inflation every argentinian is a hobbyist economist himself (otherwise you couldn’t make it month to month)

Keep in mind that in reality it raises the floor to 1900 dollars/ month for workers only. Thats at today’s black market exchange rate (article cites non existent official rate).

With the rapid inflation we are experiencing (likely going hyper) that floor will get back to normal soon.

We’ll se what next president does.

I work as a software engineer, my daily driver is Macbook Pro (m1, 16gb) and update them every 3 years on average. Do you know how much downtime I’ve had b/c broken package updates (linux), long unapproved software updates (win) malware or hardware failures? exactly zero.

That’s not luxury, thats a good tool to do the job for me.

Theres is one thing non apple manufacturers can’t do: iOS

I’ve given old iphones / helped purchase new ones to my Android friends over the years - none got back to android.

The experience is subjective but a well designed user interface with attention to detail an very responsive hardware/software combination that keeps working like that after 4+ years beats every other option. Specially after apple focused on selling services and now old devices seem more performant than ever.

Also you don’t need a $1000 iPhone - a refurbished 2nd gen SE is about 250 on amazon.

I'm Argentinian and we keep sharing mate as if nothing have happened. Off course there may be some people that started to drink their own mate but definitely not the majority, not even close.

Sharing mate is a ritual too culturally rooted to Argentinian society. It's hard to explain but it goes beyond drinking a hot beverage.

It's an alternative payment network, implemented as a bitcoin layer 2. You can argue that it's somewhat centralized, but not as much as Visa.

Well I've actually paid for street food using lightning, and also use it regularly it to send money to my family using Strike. It's instant and practically free.
