Or even a human rewrite merely because some language is the current fad. A rewrite in a different language should be done for very good reasons, to solve problems that are bigger than the costs of all the bugs that will be introduced.

These says I just ask YouTube's AI for a summary of the video. Then I can decide whether the presenter is worth another 20 minutes of my time.

We have this problem due to government regulation. Without it, every game would be cracked and downloadable without any restrictions on use. The server requirements would be reverse-engineered and neutered.

Great read. The section about copy protection and being able to step the head motor half tracks and do things like store tracks at half positions, or even store 180 degrees at one position and another for the rest, was very interesting. The disk copiers at the time always seemed pretty sophisticated, but I didn't realize they had to deal with things like this. I bet those were fun to write (and be part of the arms race).

I took parent to be arguing that because people get paid at the office even though they aren't working 100% of the time, the same logic would dictate being paid when not at the office. The percentage flip would just mean that they aren't 100% doing leisure activities.

At least an ongoing retainer fee, plus paying for time spent dealing with comms.

I'm fine if they want to give me extra work when I'm not on the job. I round up to the hour, so choose your after-hours emails wisely.

Google's AI Mode was pretty effective at solving it. I'm impressed. I just copied and pasted the two lines.

The site even lets you see if any of your cameras are exposed, where it switches to a map view and shows any near you.

The inflation-adjusted amount of a $0 refund comes out to... $0.

What good is a disc player when your display... can't... show it? Can't have unauthorized computing devices connected to displays in the future.

Sorry, I was including time waiting in line at a cashier checkout. If there's no line, then it's faster if you've got a lot of items.

So you spend more time checking out and more time being idle waiting for it.

It's people being dishonest that makes self checkout slower, with it having to verify the weight of everything. Some stores are higher trust and lack this, which makes it so much faster and smoother.

I love self checkout. It's usually significantly faster and I can keep busy rather than waiting (I still bag when I use a cashier). I can do shenanigans like do three transactions so I can use a coupon three times separately, without bothering anyone. They're an example of the benefits going to both parties.

Yep, and it's pretty bad. The only benefit is real-time, which is why I highlighted that FUTO lacks that. If it made as many errors as GBoard, it wouldn't be worth using.

Voice dictation is so much better than GBoard, which I've been using until now. It capitalizes and punctuates sentences without me needing to, and got several sentences perfect without any post-editing needed, and it's all a local model. The one downside is no real-time update, just batch conversion once you're done talking. Looks like they've fixed the swipe backspace and spacebar to not be over-sensitive like it was a year or two ago when I last tried (and allowed some customization).

If most people have a significant Vitamin D deficiency, then I agree that my comparison was absurd.
