Yeah, nice line. It's funny if you realize how often you hear something like this little piece of wisdom every once in a while and usually don't think about how old this sentiment actually is.
It's the sad truth. This is exactly the kind of story I expect on Medium, that's their clickbait, their MO to drive the traffic up. That's all you need to know about it.
It's so predictable, I don't know if it's more funny or more sad, actually.
And yes, I totally believe every single word of that story. Now that is sarcasm.
Look at the choice of words. It's all there, all the buzzwords, all the expected jargon, signalling virtue and belonging to the tribe.
"Both sides" is just a shorthand expression for principles otherwise better understandable as "due process", but this is hard to summarize in just some words or a couple sentences.
It basically means there are two sides (at least) to everything, that can't just be disregarded. Exceptions prove the rule, of course.
On another point, Hotelling's law is a really poor example when it comes to debates or questions of politics, in my opinion.
