There doesn't need to be a why. With the time scales involved one successful Von Neumann probe civilization would quickly (at time scales of the universe) take over everything. That we don’t seem to see that is suggestive-either there’s no one else or there's a very strong, effective galactic or universal ban on VN probes.
This somewhat suggests or relies on humans not being uniquely territorial and resource hungry.
Kind of like the saying that if you see one cockroach you have many, many cockroaches.
It’d probably help if it had a company like Red Hat offering enterprise support and contributing back to it. Knowledge certification helps a ton too. It’s all fun and games until the SME leaves and a company finds out how hard it is to hire another person with skills in that OS.
I’m for it, but for adults too. Something’s got to push back against the road rage stuff. Plus there’s got to be a way to tell someone their ability to drive safely is questionable. It’s a skill that dies out over time with age. Seen too much tragedy on the road.
Except Dune doesn’t have the same market history as Star Wars to make funding 100 hours as easy to fund. Though realistically it would be cool if an animated, long version existed. Truthfully though with how abstract the story is it’s just hard to get anyone into the background deeply in a video format.
Actually the US declared they were willing to spend money for commercial space flight at the end of the shuttle program. They literally said “I’m a demander for a good/service” and entrepreneurs got to work.
There’s also the hazard of if they’re not worth paying for their financial services they just might not be worth paying for those services. And thus shouldn’t be in charge of Finance.
I’m sure the antennae will be impossible to physically disconnect as well. I really hoped we’d never get to Fahrenheit 451 but the wall to wall TVs that watch you are pretty close at hand.
Zfs still has a huge overhead. It needs more ram than a watch or even phone is going to have - until they start packing enough that losing 4gigs of ram to overhead is fine.
I think I'd forgotten that point. I also think they could just straight offer a second tier i.e. $10 for the device-linked game and $20 for the device-unliked.
Good to notice. I just adjust my interaction with it accordingly.
