This vulnerability existed for ~4 years in a multi-billion-dollar protocol,
overlooked by multiple in-depth security audits, only to be found by an Opus 4.8
agent a day after the model's public release. Opus 4.7 also failed to find it on
its own without being specifically directed.
Craziest part is that because of Zcash's zero-knowledge design, there's no way to
tell whether it was ever exploited. All ~$1.3B sitting in the Orchard pool
(Zcash's main shielded/private pool, where most private ZEC lives) could have
been minted out of thin air. BTW similar
counterfeiting bug was disclosed in 2019, also never known to have been exploited.
Weird choice, given Google’s track record on privacy. Gemini uses your chats for training and human review them by default. You can opt out by turning off App Activity, but that disables chat history and integrations, which kinda kinda makes it useless. Claude respects your privacy by default and ChatGPT and Grok have an opt-out that doesn’t totally cripple the app.
So what makes Google less scummy? A cheaper price? I’m sure that won’t last long – they’ve played this game before with YouTube, Google Reader, and Search: hook users, dominate, then enshittify. Same old Google playbook: good → monopoly → crap.
It has a cool feature on Android, when phone is locked, I only need to press the unlock button to see the map, phone doesn't ask for a password/fingerprint scan.
This saves so much time when traveling on a bicycle because I don't like planning a detailed route, i just set a destination point, and ride in that direction, choosing the best scenic view. In that scenario, my phone mostly sits in my pocket, and I pull it out only when I get lost, but it saves so much time through the whole route.
If I want to switch to another app, Android asks me to authenticate, I don't know why google maps doesn't work the same way.
>Yeah he started the one of the deadliest wars in the 21 century, threatens to destroy the entire planet with nuclear weapons, but he is not that evil because there were other wars started by the west
It's the same thing as company being based on Cayman Islands, it's mostly on paper really. Most of their offices, and human force are located in russia, in 2009 they sold golden share for 1 eur to the russian goverment(which allows to temporarily suspend the head of Yandex among other "benefits"), yeah and CEO(was resigned in dec 2022) and several other people from the board members are sanctioned by the West.
> "As founder and CEO of Yandex, he is supporting, materially or financially, the Government of the Russian Federation and is responsible for supporting actions or policies which undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine," the EU's listing states.
> The document also accuses Yandex of "promoting State media and narratives in its search results, and deranking and removing content critical of the Kremlin, such as content related to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine."
Yeah and they are going to change the formals too - Yandex NV(based in Netherlands) is considering turning the main part of the business into a separate Russian group https://newsunrolled.com/economy/132317.html
It's literally rewriting search queries to avoid showing putin in negative context, when people search for "khuilo" or "bunker grandpa", "main thief" etc.
They never released any official statements condemning the war or leaving russia, none of their services were shut down there, and they still actively hiring new people in russia. Yandex services is also widely known for spreading pro-war propaganda, disinformation and fakes while censoring opposition media: https://meduza.io/feature/2023/01/30/yandeks-blokiroval-izob...,
Taylor Hornby's own write-up is quite an interesting read: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SVK41y-ip3Vw9eB69E9QRy-Qn3i...
