This is not new for BMW. I have a 2016 and if I want my phone app to work, like location or open/close the doors it's a subscription. And Apple carplay was also a subscription. I tested the app the first year and was so bad... and try to enter am email and app with a wheel to scroll all alphabet just to login in the car. Horrible interface. Once I closed the doors in the app and they never closed. They are not getting new costumers. So they need to find a way to get money from the current owners.
We made https://www.kalipsostudio.com/ a low code app to generate Android/iOS/Win/Win CE/Win Mobile (They are still out there lol). Our focus is with mobile native apps not Web/server/backend apps. It's manly used for logistics, erp interface, shop floor, military, mobile sales, etc... you don't need to learn a new language but we assume that you know your way with SQL.
I work for a "no-code" app (Kalipso Studio) with focus in logistics and shop floor applications. But the programmer needs to have some basic programming skills and at a little bit of SQL. This guy is a bit exaggerated. We have many costumers using this manly to interface PLC that now come with Webservices or have other software to convert the protocol, etc... We have companies using this to control robots, but the movements was natively programing. Now they just use our software to manage the robot, get data/statistics, and load different parameters. I don't think the "no-code" is for people with less skills. Our clients buy this because they what to be more productive, or they can't or don't want to buy the solution from a external company. Governments and military also don't like external companies, so they buy to use internally like big companies. And apps in the industries are always changing, so they need to be fast to adapt. They don't need a very fancy interface, most of them will never be published, they are not building a Tiktok app.

MSS/DCAPP is manly for Portuguese/Spanish language countries.
Kalipso is used everywhere from Argentina to Vietnam.
And we ha no idea how many apps are out there build because we don't have royalties and we don't collect any data.
I had a similar problem. But I could see part of the screen. So o used a usb OTG cable with a mouse to enable BT and connect a second mouse using BT. Then I was able to enable USB debugging to use with scrcpy. Now I use the phone as a "security" cam.
I'm using https://mega.io/ has an alternative for Google Drive. Not just for photos. The Windows Client is a LOT faster than Google Drive and with a smaller footprint. It's fast. Works in Linux. And you can use Synology to backup Mega. In the case of Mega goes off.
OneDrive is terrible in windows to sync, is always trying to sync even if you are editing a file, so make you PC/Work slower. When you share and if add more files sometimes new files don't appear in the shared link. Shared Link URL are too big and your email will go in the URL.. I don't recommend at all. I'm just forced to use for work.

In Portugal, because everything you buy you need to provide your VAT number, even if you buy one coffee. And all medical are also electronic. And your employer also submit all the money you earn. In Portugal we just give our NIF (fiscal number - VAT Number) every time you buy something. All invoices will have your NIF. And all invoices are communicated to the government by the software that make your invoice. All invoicing software need to me certified by the government. This is mandatory. When you need to make your taxes they are already filled in. And business can't avoid taxes because they are communicated to the government.
