Isn't that the issue though? Nobody cares until it's too late.

What ChatGPT can do combine knowledge and provide personalised examples. This is usually done manually and it takes hours of research with trial & error.

Tough choice.

Weird goo that was grown in a lab by people that have no idea what they're doing OR natural food we've been eating since the dawn of time.

No worries, all this is coming in a few years as well.

> US controls the land and seas of most of the Earth

They do so with the help of allies which they seem to forget.

Happily using Zoho for 2-3 years now. Moved away from Google because... well you can't trust them with anything.

> whims of a private American corporation

Exactly. Private corporations that adhere to US law and have demonstrated that they don't operate in good faith.

Each country should control official channels of communication.

> This is an indication that Google underestimates the value of data stored by users.

That becomes apparent if you ever had any issue with a google product. There's no way to resolve issues outside of canned answers from "AI" systems and public forums.

> If you criticize the Corona measure you are a Nazi, if you criticize the Ukraine war you are a Russian troll?

These notions are propagated by the US to the rest of the world. While EU politicians seem to go along, europeans do not tolerate it much and that much is reflected in society.

If the EU or more gov sponsored search engines pop up, i have no doubt they will want to control them in their own way - i'm okay with that. Right now our only option is US controlled entities that answer to US govs and rules.

At least here we can point fingers and hold politicians accountable if they try to influence things the wrong way. We can't do that with US companies.

Why should we trust google? They have a proven track record of doing this.

I've been avoiding any google product lock in for years now. These ban cases might be rare but i would never trust them enough to build my livelihood on it.

> open source as a whole sucks at building products, but is great at building infrastructure

Infrastructure you can trust. Most close sourced tech will lock you in and you're at their mercy - no thanks.

> In the justice system, you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Let's be honest, it rarely works that way.

However i agree, what facebook did here is "shoot fist, ask for forgiveness later".

I'm surprised you're surprised. Apple has been deviating from good UX little by little every year now.

US applies US law globally. EU applies EU law in the EU - see the difference? At the very least, we as Europeans have some influence over local politics.
