Um...I assume you're speaking of Linux? Every major OS is written in C with a little asm. I think like one subsystem in Windows is in C++, but most of the code in every major OS is written in C. Which means your claim suggests that every major OS vendor is wrong, which is a very broad claim, my friend. Obviously C is best for the job.

Um...you ever heard of Windows CE and Windows Mobile? Neither has hardly failed or been aborted. Windows Mobile has a huge market share for mobile phones, and CE has a decent share of the netbook market.

Good lord look at all the CRAPPLE fanboys out tonight!! I simply LOVED this blogpost, as it has confirmed what I've been saying for months. I'm also very glad to see some Apple-Opposers here as well, finally. The Apple-Fanboyism here has gotten a little out of hand. Anyways, Apple is freaking ridiculous. First, they cut Google Latitude. Next, they break Pre, and Palm has Pre synching with iTunes again in less than a day (I freakin' love Palm! haha). Apple needs to start counting their days. Phones are on the market that rival the iPhone, and their platforms are far more open and seamless than trying 200 times over months and months trying to get an app submitted to the Crap Store. Developers have increased the iPhone's functionality by ten fold, only to be rejected or cut from the 3.0 OS upgrade, for either 'using undocumented APIs' or some other bullshit, which directly translates into 'We're threatened by you because you've made a better version of x software for our phone than we ever dreamed possible, and we made the damn thing!'. There were 4 camera apps for the iPhone that got cut during 3.0 upgrade, which made the iPhone camera do more things than Crapple could even fathom. There was night vision, better quality video, all sorts of cool, revolutionary new features, which would have directly related to higher iPhone sales for Apple. These new camera features alone were enough reason to some users to break down and buy an iPhone. But oh no no, the most closed-minded company in the IT world couldn't handle it. Somebody else managed to make a better camera app than their standard camera app, and that just wasn't going to happen. They saw these apps as competing with their own. Developers have to literally jump through hoops to get an app submitted to the Crap Store, which is the ONLY way to get an app on the iPhone outside of the Enterprise License, with which you have to have over 500 employees to qualify for, and I don't think they've given any of those licenses out anyways. You can't load an app onto the iPhone if it isn't digitally signed by almighty apple itself. I'm sorry, but if I spend that kind of money on a smartphone or anything else, that thing is MINE, and I should be able to do what the hell I want to with it. I'm not renting it, I'm not leasing it, and I'm not trading the damn thing back in. I bought it, I own it, I should be able to put whatever app I want to on it. They could easily protect themselves by voiding the warranty/support if a user loaded a non-Apple supported app onto the phone, but noooo, they just won't let you do it at all. I can write an app right now, on my PC, and load it onto my Motorola Windows Mobile phone..as I could with virtually any other platform besides the iPhone. The iPhone got popular because it had more features than any other phone on the market did, but now that has changed. There are phones that do every single thing that the iPhone does, and most cases even better. These phones have wide open platforms, and are a joy to develop for. Apple, developers aren't going to waste the extra effort for forever. The day these newer phones crush the iPhone in sales (which won't be long, don't worry :P) the Crap Store will be empty. Personally, I can't wait.

I won't lie, Apple does make some decent products (IMO, the iPod and iPhone only). The way they have them blocked in, however, will be the reason for their downfall, which mark my words, is coming. They just can't believe someone can do something better than them with the platform they built. Yes, Apple does have a monopoly - over the Crap Store. By them making the Crap Store the only possible way to load apps onto the iPhone, and with them being the sole judge of what apps get in or not, they have monopolized the hell out of the CRAP Store. Yes, I know, they own it..but how in the hell is it supposed to be a fair market for iPhone developers, when they have to compete with a company that can not only refuse their apps, but let their apps through, let the apps build up a huge userbase, and then pull the plug on them for bullshit reasons? Who in their right fucking mind would invest the time/money into developing an iPhone app? The only reason people do currently is because of the iPhone's popularity. That's it. Not because the like the device, or Apple, its because the iPhone is popular. As soon as this even threatens to change, developers will be bailing out of the Crap Store faster than the citizens of New Orleans during Katrina. If Apple took care of its developers, encouraged innovation, and opened up a bit, developers would stick with the iPhone platform through thick and thin. But that's never going to happen.

The iPod is a damn good device. It's what brought Apple back onto the map, and it was revolutionary. I had one once upon a time, and I loved the thing. Its really sad that they have to ruin a great product because of how closed-minded they are. I should be able to use my iPod on whatever OS I want, and with whatever software I want. I bought this device, I own it. Apple might as well be a rental store the way they treat their customers. Crapple is a company of snobby control freaks, who will soon enough be leaving the game with a black eye. That will be a happy day for me.

Give me a break. One can verify the reason of Apple screwing Google solely on Apple's actions in the past. They have one of the best mobile handsets in history, which could be TEN TIMES better if they wouldn't limit developers. Apple, people are eventually going to get tired of this, and develop for other platforms. They'll soon realize that your ridiculous politics isn't worth all the hassel anymore, especially when there are handsets available which rival the functionality of the iPhone. They will get tired of jumping through endless hoops to get it published, when on other platforms its open, easy, and seamless. If they don't loosen up soon, the iPhone will just be another thing of the past.

Have you ever seen 'organized and cleanly written' driver code? Have you seen all the crazy #defines in the kernel itself, all the optimized bit hacks and so forth? Its running on the hardware, its low level..it has no choice but to be dirty..its the nitty gritty :P

I completely agree. If you notice, on basically any T.V. show you watch today, anyone with a computer on the show, the computer will be an Apple (mostly laptops). Same in movies as well. Somehow, Apple Mac's got branded as 'cool', and I guess 'cool' will cost you an extra $500+.

I just don't get it. I promise I'm not flaming Apple anymore, for Christ's sake, I've never seen so many people whine and cry in my life just for saying a harsh word or two(or not even so harsh, really) about Apple. But all bullshit aside, I just don't understand. I can see the Porche-Camry analogy if the Mac was a better performing computer. The Porche is a sportscar, it has a nicer interior, its faster, has a high-end motor, and just generally a bunch of things that make it cost more. Where is all of that in a Mac? Line up a PC and a Mac with COMPARABLE hardware specs, and a Mac is no different/better (performance wise, here) than the PC, and often times the PC actually outperforms the Mac. Please someone explain this to me. This is no 'high-end' market here. You act like the Mac has twice the RAM, twice the cores, and twice the clock speed, and it simply doesn't. How about for me, the consumer - am I paying $400-500 more because the Mac 'looks' better (In which my opinion it doesn't, but then again who cares what the damn things look like - its a computer) ? I've gotten a ton of responses saying that 'the case/shell is stronger and more durable'. Ok, maybe so, but that justifies me shelling out another $500? Or 'it's made out of higher quality parts' - what parts? It was my understanding that Mac's have either Intel processors or PowerPC's. Intel is the most commonly used in PCs..so no 'better parts' there. Basically all hardware in both are compatible and can be used in both, and if not, they're very similar/comparable. Once again, I am NOT flaming Apple here - so don't start whining again. I seriously want someone to tell me why spending the extra money is worth it. How is the Mac a 'higher-end' computer? I don't want to hear differences in MacOS vs. Windows/Linux because you're never going to convince me there. You probably won't gain much ground with a software argument either, because most of that is made for both platforms and there is a crapload more free software available for the PC. I'm talking about performance wise, PC vs Mac with comparable hardware. What is my extra money going for? Why is it worth it?Why are people calling Apple's Mac a 'higher end' computer? Thanks. P.S. - My theory? The Mac is being labeled as a 'higher-end' computer simply because the price tag is higher :-) Seriously, that's all I can think of.

Sort of what I thought, until I read more. If you read more, he explains that this article was a broad summary/introduction and that it is explained in more detail on his other blog posts that he links to from that one. I found it very interesting, especially that he is using C# and LINQ. Read some more of his posts, very cool stuff...worth the read for sure.

The main thing to take away from this is that this guy got lucky on many fronts. People slipped up. He didn't root any boxes, he didn't exploit a software vulnerability in any webapps, he just took advantage of human mistakes and got lucky. Without the hotmail thing happening, I seriously doubt he would've gotten anywhere. Its almost a complete fluke, but it can happen in many other places because of how users handle accounts. I also agree, if this guy was trying to 'help', he wouldn't have posted the info to a news outlet like TC that he knew would post it. Wow some 'hacker', he got lucky and guessed a gmail password from recovering an expired hotmail account. I guess the apology is to try and keep Twitter from frying his ass.

This is SO ridiculous ! Just another one of Stallman's obsessive rants. He just can't accept that his beloved FSF/FOSS community wants to use something created by MSFT. If MSFT did the things this article suggests, and even worked with FSF on 'getting it right', FSF/Stallman would STILL find something wrong with the Community Promise for C# and STILL deem it 'dangerous and wrong to use on GNU/Linux'. Stallman, just accept it, get over it, and move on man...people like C#, and Mono is a damn good implementation of it. Chill out!

Really...and here we thought SElinux was supposed to be 'more secure'. I love linux, and could read through the kernel source all day long, its freakin' beautiful, and have utmost respect for its developers. But I can't help but laughing when someone finds a vulnerability in the code, because...well you know how those kernel guys are...:-)

I used to smoke but can't anymore because of legal constraints and of course drug testing, and the stuff stays in your system for at least a month (at least for me) :-(. This varies in between different kinds of bud, but 5 out of 6 kinds I'd smoke throughout the month made me very lazy, so I couldn't see myself getting much done. Every now and then I'd find some stuff that didn't make me lazy, but it was rare. As far as brainstorming ideas though I think it would be great for that. As for dulling your intelligence, completely untrue. Maybe while high, but nothing permanent for sure.

Wow, that shot over your head. The comparison is in between laptops with COMPARABLE specs. Good lord. Not a $500 Dell and a $1,000 Macbook. If you'll remember, most commercials weren't too specific, but in most of them at least a thousand dollars was being spent. We're not comparing a low end PC with a high end Mac. I didn't realize I was going to have to hold your hand through that. Man, I guess at least five of you also learned a new word today, 'unsubstantiated'. Congratulations!

Thanks for the hysterical laughter that you just provided me. The only apt analogy here is that the Mac is the taurus, with the price of the BMW. The comparison with the laptops is hardware specs, monitor, functionality, everything. The only differentiating yet irrelevant feature is the appearance, in which they differ. The 'frilly extras' of the BMW simply don't exist on the Mac. Very funny though.

Its not just me dude, millions of others share the same opinion, but here ya go: My PC is faster than my friends' macs. The UI looks better on my PC, you can even make a window fullscreen! I'm a programmer, and Apple has chosen to base their platform on Objective-c, a jumbled mess of a wanna-be C++. Honestly, I've neven even heard of another big company worth mentioning that uses the language, other than to port their software to macs. I'm part of the open source community, and while I'm sure their is some, I've never heard of an open source Apple/Mac community. Hell, Apple even discourages it for the iphone. There are vast communities for the platforms I use, Windows and Linux, and there is also plenty of free software for these platforms, while it is rarely the case on Mac. My guess its probably because software vendors have to go through the hell of using Obj-C, so they want to be paid for every program they write, as would I. As I stated I don't go looking for FOSS mac communities, but they can't be that popular, i've never heard of any at all. Is that enough for you? If not, I'm sorry but I'm tired of having to validate my own opinion. I could say that I hate mac because I don't like the color, and it would be valid because it is MY opinion. I guess I don't have the leisure of having as much free time as you all.

Wow, comparing a Taurus with a BMW? First, there's a huge price difference. Hell, these two are in two different classes of cars. BMW obviously has a nicer interior, better motor, suspension, everything. It has better performance in every area, and is a far nicer/superior vehicle. We're comparing a macbook and a PC, with relative hardware specs, if you'll read the topic. I don't have to prove anything, I only asked because you did. My remarks are unsubstantiated ? The purchase of a laptop is purely personal preference, as I stated earlier. It's my opinion. I can base my opinion on anything I want, and you cannot claim that an opinion is 'unsubstantiated'. You cannot tell me that my personal opinion is wrong. Well I guess you could, but that would be stupid. I'm not flaming anyone, and I'm not personally attacking you or anyone else for owning/liking a mac. That's your preference, your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own, and unlike you, I'm not explicitly stating that your opinion is wrong, or 'unsubstantiated', as the popular word of choice seems to be here. I shot the facts out in the next post because you requested them. Yes, they are facts, it is widely known that PCs and operating systems such as Windows and Unix-clones are more popular than Macs and MacOS X. I used this statement to show that I'm clearly not alone in this opinion, and because you and others demanded me to 'substantiate' my opinion, which I shouldn't even be wasting my time with.

This is also a company that once tried to get a patent on GUIs, windowing systems. They thought they should be the only ones around to produce a machine with a graphical desktop. Thank God that didn't happen, the computing world would be a horrible place. Why don't you tell me why paying more for the same hardware specs for the Mac should be justified? Because it 'looks' better? Are you all that superficial? I could understand if the Mac outperformed the PC, but it clearly doesn't. Linux is good for servers, Windows is good for a desktop, and I guess a Mac is good for 'looking good'. It's not like I'm the only one with this opinion, read the facts. Windows has what, like 86% of the desktop market? Even Vista sold more units than OS X. Don't give me the crap about Windows is so popular because it comes pre-installed, OS X runs on Apple computers, if these people wanted OS X they'd have bought an Apple. Also, with that market share, there is obviously a crapload of repeat customers. If PCs were so bad, why do people continue to buy them? There's just this little inner circle of die-hard Apple fans, who throw a fit about any harsh word said about the products. And boy, do they love their Macs. But answer me this: Why is this group so small compared to the PC market?
