So you won't even dignify that with a response, for reasons completely unknown. Well fuck you too.

I read through the replies here, and as expected, none of them have an actual solution to this problem; which is to be expected, since this is a geek website where none of these people understand markets or economics, (and only half understand computers), so you're asking the wrong crowd.

The actual answer is: do nothing at all. Simply sit back and wait for one year. I promise you, the problem will solve itself.

It's called a Housing Market Bubble, and the thing about bubbles is, they pop--taking down millions of smug, clueless 'investors' with them. Happens on a regular cycle, like clockwork. Nobody ever learns anything.

This bubble is a particularly nasty one that will wipe out tons of idiots, both the deserving and nondeserving kind, sadly.

Oh, I did forget one small preparation you can make: load up on popcorn. Lots of popcorn.

This is the final, definitive answer. Print it and hang it on your fridge.

Sincerely, your worthless (according to HN) hillbilly friend in Alabama.

It is believed they over time slowly absorb rays of smugness from virtue signalling urbanites in the surrounding vicinity, gradually rendering the panel material radioactive and unfit for future use, even after recycling. Some believe this effect can be mitigated by first sprinkling the unit with the used oil from a sacrificed Chevy 350 engine, while walking in a counterclockwise circle and chanting a priestly incantation. More scientific study is needed to confirm or deny the efficacy of this approach.

Yes, and it should cost $999/year for the registration fee, funneled into the pocket of some giant virtue signalling multinational corporation, who uses the proceeds to buy media time calling for the excommunication of anyone who refuses to bend a knee and pledge obeisance to Al Gore and the high priests of the Carbon Cult. I approve.

Yeah, and apparently the load is such a problem for them, their web server will permanently autoban your IP if you load too many articles at once, say 10-15 that you were planning to save and read offline.

Then if you email to ask 'Wtf', tiny violins will play as they explain they are too broke and impoverished to afford bandwidth enough to not do this, while helpfully suggesting you go to a different internet connection to fill out a form to unblock yourself.

Must be tough times at YCombinator, spending all those billions on junk Web Bubble 2.0 companies and none left to spare for HN bandwidth, or say a proper index so you can look up old articles.

Yeah, Symmetry is the one I was looking at. I clicked on their links and did some reading. The initial impression is a positive one.

'Woke' may be the wrong term, although that is a component. Initially, the idea of being 'woke' comes from The Matrix, where it's positive, meaning being clued in to what's really going on in the world; i.e. that everything is a lie and illusion. (The movie is highly symbolic of the times we're living in.) Recently however, the term has been hijacked, and is now used in reference to extremely toxic, divisive ideology, like 'critical race theory' to name one particular example, which I refuse to come even within a hundred miles of, as it's so corrosive. I'm not a goosestepper or Kool-aid drinker, of any flavor.

In reference to tech stacks, many of these companies use stacks that I just find completely repellant, like anything to do with Javascript, for example. As a C guy, I like to keep to the low level basics, and avoid all these big, heavy, bloated frameworks. That's why D is looking interesting, as I can stay at a lower level while avoiding the sometimes drudgery of C.

Truth be told, I'm not even a 'programmer' per se, if the word is taken to mean only doing that One Thing, as a specialist. I'm a polymath, and my fingers are in just about every pie. I feel just as comfortable rebuilding an automobile, or doing plumbing or electrical work, or any number of other things, besides just programming. (Specialists are ubiquitous these days, and they often look down on generalists who do more than Just One Thing, as if we are somehow inferior.)

Computing is what I have been doing for the longest; among other things I developed my own Linux 'distro' from scratch, which is lightweight, clean, and fast, even on old hardware. Right now I'm in the middle of switching it over to Musl Libc, and setting it up for cross compiling to x86-64, i686, and ARM.

Is your company still actively hiring right now? I see they have at least in the past been in search of technical writers to create documentation. Writing and breaking down technical things to explain them to other technical people or end users is one of my strong points. I've done that in the past as a satellite communications engineer. Seems like a job I'd really enjoy. I'm currently self employed in fertilizer sales, although COVID has wrecked my business; thus me kicking around the idea of applying somewhere.

I also dabble in stock and options trading BTW, although I'm not very good at it; that's what caught my eye on this article, since it's about D and HFT.

Address the problem? LOL! Yes, we are totally going to stop the tracking problem dead in its tracks by bombarding the poor serf with annoying popups. A foolproof, masterful plan. Pure genius.

Next thing you know, the executives of Google, Facebook, Microsoft, The Government, the Church, YCombinator, and every other corporation on the planet will be arrested en masse, charged with egregious violations of civil rights, convicted, then publically executed.

If only the common serf had understood sooner that their every move and all details of their lives were being monitored, tracked, and recorded for sinister purposes, and their data, dignity, and rights exfiltrated by ubiquitous malware installed by Big Brother on every single digital device. Their minds controlled and manipulated by an endless barrage of disinformation; their bodies, souls, and lives totally owned by their betters. If only they had known they were born into chattel slavery.

But now the dawning of truth and justice is at hand! Finally, at long last, the masses are going to rise up in revolt against digital slavery by faceless corporate/government/religious demons! I'm sure of it! And all it took was ubiquitous, annoying popups, to finally awaken the power of the masses against their corporate/government/religious overlords. The era of total freedom from serfdom is at hand! Arise, my people, and FIGHT! Launch all zig! For great justice!

Meanwhile, be sure to wear that scrap of fabric across your face, citizen, or the boogie-virus'll get ya! lol.

Like I said, humans are extraordinarily stupid creatures. A worthless, failed, unrepentently evil species. Bring on the asteroid. ANY DAY NOW.

If I may ask, what company pays you to develop D, and is it a good place to work? I just had a look at the D language jobs page, and although a couple of the entries looked promising (like the one investment company), the majority (same as for any other programming language) were completely uninteresting, or were the usual toxic, woke companies using horrible software stacks that I prefer to stay far away from. Frankly, the idea of even looking for a programming job in this day and age, or any job at all, having to put in hundreds of applications to fake job listings, going through dozens of interviews only to be rejected, leetcode, being harshly judged on every little thing, fills me with despair. It's a terrible time to be alive.

Which, again, accomplishes what, exactly?

"What? This site uses cookies? I am shocked--shocked I say!--to learn cookies are being used on this web site! I had NO IDEA that was going on! Why, it's not like they have been doing that for 25+ years, or anything!"

Is this going to stop companies from tracking people? Of course not. It does absolutely nothing to stop any of that. All it does is create yet another useless, annoying fucking popup I have to click through. Instead of being silently tracked, now I'm tracked, plus annoyed, and being FORCED to agree with it. Even though I don't even live in the God damned EU and neither do many of the web sites I access.

Like I said--a perfect example of how brain dead retarded humanity is. A failed species. Bring on the giant asteroid, any day now GOD.

Thanks for the advice. Given that you exposed your warped, racist ideological beliefs in other threads, this helps me to understand that Scala probably isn't something I want to involve myself with under any circumstances. Your judgment about good or bad at best cannot be trusted, and at worst is a contrary indication warning me to stay the hell away.

And of course, the Wikipedia propaganda is considered absolute truth, while my factual real world experience is 'flagged' by some SJW virtue signalling city slicker, who is angry at anyone who speaks truth.

You cannot argue with cold, hard truth obviously, or you would be doing so, instead of flipping your wig and downvoting/flagging my post.

Here, let me tell you more about these people you obviously know nothing about. I've met, interacted with them, spent months in jail with them. I know exactly who they are and what they are about.

They swap tips and stories and plots and schemes for signing up to as many welfare programs as possible. The more checks one has coming in, the higher one's social rank is within this system. EBT cards are used to buy certain items, like 24 packs of soft drinks being a major one, which are used as a sort of currency, exchanged at half price for hard cash, which is often taken straight to the drug dealer. Fact.

There is a pride among the group based on how much they can rip off from society vs. how little actual productive work they do, ideally none. 'Hustles' are the primary form of work, usually involving drug dealing.

Theft and robbery is another primary occupation of this crowd. They steal whatever isn't nailed down, and sell it on Craigslist. When confronted, they brag about it and show no shame or remorse whatsoever, like the one guy I went to school with for example whom I noticed doing this.

They spend their lives in and out of jail--and they are proud of this. They love going to jail. That's where all their buddies are. The only thing they like better is going to prison, because it's a lot better than jail, with much more to do, more hustles to run, and more criminal minds to link up with. Fact.

Having returned from jail/prison, they continue with the same life choices. Proudly.

They do things like steal large air conditioner units from schools and churches, or catalytic converters from cars, or copper wiring and plumbing from houses, and melt them down for scrap. To buy meth and heroin. Fact.

Every one of them thinks the world owes them something. The sense of entitlement is apparent in their every word and action. People with honor and dignity who prefer to do actual work are like an alien species to them, treated with scorn and contempt.

I've personally been ripped off, robbed, and screwed over in countless ways by this crowd. Matter of fact, my shop was robbed just the other day. They took several metal items that I desperately needed, like two radiators, one of which is for my generator. I'm not rich. I'm living hand to mouth, literally eating out of dumpsters to survive. They don't care. The only thing they care about in the world is themselves.

And is it any wonder they turmed out this way, when everybody in the entire country from President and Bankers and CEOs on down is exactly as selfish and uncaring? Who do you think molded them into such criminals?

Please, downvote and flag me some more, so you can prove how selfish and disconected from reality you are also, presumably isolated in your big city enclave in some coastal city. Out here in flyover country we have no such luxury.

This country is burning, and frankly, that's exactly what it deserves. Maybe when the destruction finally reaches your doorstep, you will finally get a clue.

Yes, everyone has got an uncle or a cousin or a buddy they knew once who was involved in some ancillary way on the outskirts of the Apollo Simulation, which they take as being absolute proof that it was 100% real. They even angrily call me names, and of course, absolutely refuse to review any of the concrete evidence that the whole thing was, in fact, a fraud.

Just like you did, just now. I still haven't heard your explanation of how a large diameter rocket nozzle, which we are told was firing for the entire descent, with 10 psi of hot gases escaping from its large volume, failed to disturb so much as a speck of dust underneath the 'lander.' That's only the most obvious of many glaring plot holes in the script.

If you were to, say, enter 'evidence that the moon landing was fakee' into any search engine, naively thinking such evidence would be presented to you, instead you would get only page after page of laughter, ridicule, and condescension--and none of the actual evidence. Certainly you would never, ever be presented with the name of the very first book on the subject, which launched moon landing skepticism into the mainstream in the early 70s. Nowhere in the first ten pages of results is this man or his book mentioned.

The book is called We Never Went To The Moon by Bill Kaysing, who was a technical writer for the Saturn V rocket program at Rocketdyne. Wouldn't you think a man with such a background would be worth listening to? Google doesn't think so.

Another book of interest is NASA Mooned America, by Ralph Rene. This one is more technical in nature, and drives the final nails in the coffin. Google also pretends this one doesn't exist.

If you type the author and name of the book into Google followed by the keyword 'pdf' however, it will take you right to it on the first page. At least it did as of a year ago. Funny how that works.

Read those books, then come back and tell me again how sure you are.

When you find out how fake and full of lies the world really is, you're going to be pissed.

You seem to be unaware that there is a large and ever-expanding segment of 'society', in the US and UK at least, composed of people of all races and even social status (ghetto trash up to 'middle class' and beyond), both men and women, whose seeming sole objective in life is to have as many kids as possible and sign up for as many government checks as they can, so that they can 'live' exclusively off the backs of working people in society while contributing absolutely nothing of value themselves--not even to the actual welfare of their own children, who in the majority of cases 'grow up' to become equally unproductive leeches themselves, having learned by example from their own riffraff 'parents.'

In the UK, one such group are known as 'chavs.' It isn't a term of endearment.

Given the ignorance evident in your post, I wouldn't be at all surprised to receive a heated reply from you, calling me names and attempting to argue this inarguable fact, which is clear and obviously factual to anyone who has spent any time at all living out here in the real world aka 'flyover country.' Have you ever even been to jail?

Welfare queens come in all shapes, forms, and sizes these days. Some of the worst offenders are large corporations, though the largest by far are governments, of course.

The world is full of leeches who want something for nothing. Like for example these wealthy entities who in some cases make billions of dollars off the backs of open source developers, while the devs themselves may be on the brink of starvation, eating out of dumpsters and living in their car.
