GDP is a number. I have relatives in China, and I visit China every year. I would say the average people in China live a better life than average Americans do here, and it's still constantly improving. Then, why don't I go back to China? My kids are getting education here, and they can not catch up back in China.
Google envies the huge amount of data Baidu enjoys. In this AI/ML age, data is gold. China is the biggest gold mining field. If I were China government, I would block Google for its bluff made/called in 2010.
The US government probably worries that Huawei could remotely blew the phone battery should US ever goes into a trade war with China, which is emergent ...
That's the only sense I can make out of this news. I would dump my Huawei if US government can expense it for me. It's hard to find such a high quality phone. [1]
Let them keep their ignorance. I've decided to give up educating them for two reasons:
1) It's impossible for them to realize that China is a much better place than what western media depicts. It's even better than most western countries nowadays.
2) It's for China's benefits to keep them in thinking China still what China was 100 years ago.
Don't wake up them, let them live in their dreams.
well, at least Russian does that for a living. In America, some internet trolls do it for free, as they choose to ignore the facts, or too lazy to check the facts.
Polluted air, polluted water, polluted food, hidden poverty, blah, blah, ... and yet China's life expectancy is only 3 year shorter than America's (76 vs 79), and China's population is 4 times as bigger as America's. I will have to say, good job Chinese government!
Isn't it a common practice to follow the local law wherever you do business and make money?
Google was allowed to operate in China, and it decided it did NOT want to follow the law and quit. Google was an underdog in Chinese search anyway when it operated in China. It simply failed to compete against Bidu.
Amazon has been operating in China since 2000ish. It failed to compete against Alibaba and Jindong.
Facebook will definitely lose to Tecent/Weixin in China market even if it is allowed.
Cisco lost to Huawei everywhere in the world except in US, where Huawei is forbidden...
Microsoft and Apple are doing well in China because they follow the local law and actually create value to local customers.
Sounds like he ruined his career covering China. Well deserved. Move on, and start another career covering India or whatever. Maybe China has become important enough that anyone who intends to mess her law within her border would think twice.
Is Amazon forcing shit-hunters to buy Chinese shit for cheap? You get what you pay. There are expensive high quality Chinese products whiners can't afford.
Please, nytimes, stop caring so much about China, because you don't. Let them cheat, and let them rot. The truth is China doesn't need the west as much as the west needs China. The west really wants to see China fail. But, Whatever happening in China is actually working. Even something is not working initially, Chinese are smart enough to figure them out themselves. Too bad the west can not force opium into China anymore.
Historically Korea had been a loyal vassal state of China for thousands of year. China had defended Korea against various barbarians from Mongolia plateau, Japan(multiple times) and America more recently.
The reason NK still exists is not USA's mercy or NK's nuke, it's because it's neighboring with China & Russia. Same thing applies to Vietnam.
please don't educate me on China. I was born there and much older than your 1988 roommates. China is not perfect, but it's way better than what western media depicts. On the other hand, you have to be political correct in every country, even in US ...
well, with this law, you got stability and can focus on things important. With 1 billion well educated ppl, I am not too worried about shortage of talent.
