There is no "old money" in the US. The country is young enough for all of it to be "new money".

Yup.

If you don't want to be bullied by the bigger and more powerful, yes.

GDPR is good for protecting us from surveillance capitalism. This proposal is bad for trying to establish another form of capitalism.

Those two are not conflicting statements.

The Council of the EU is a meeting of ministers of various national governments, all of them elected by their respective electorate.

That is because of the fatal flaw of democracy: The demos is people and the majority of people are stupid.

No, but it's size and focused power does, which is why the EU isn't trying to copy it 1:1

You probably call the CCC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Computer_Club

I think archive.org might be that data hoarder :). They might release stuff slowly as the copyright expires.

It also looks like https://redacted.ch/ might be the spiritual successor - https://interviewfor.red/en/prepare.html this process sounds very familiar ;)

Was that on a private tracker? Those usually have strict rules around sharing ratios to prevent that scenario and in my experience, it works pretty well!

The beauty about it's distributed nature is that you don't need anyone seeding for infinity. You just need somebody seeding at all times and if you ever use a private tracker, you'll see that that's not an issue at all.

That already exists. It's called torrent trackers.

There used to be one called what.cd [0] that, to me, was like the Library of Alexandria, but for music. It was burned down in the name of commercial interest.

It might not be legal, but that's because the industry's interest is diametrically opposed to ours.

If it's moral and worthy of support, I'll leave for you to decide.

I think Eye of GNOME is pretty similar to macOS preview:

I'm not talking about a library, I'm more concerned with DEs implementing the library.

Things like swipe with three fingers to switch desktops, swipe up with three fingers to show open windows etc. Why is all that stuff tied to a UI theme?

That sounds like it'd be solved by a filter rule in their bug tracker, removing theming altogether seems like a strong overreaction imo.

That's great to hear! It does bring this to mind though https://xkcd.com/927/

Is there a similar reason GNOME doesn't have a convenient task list?

What if I want to use GNOME's nice touch functionality and rich set of apps, but not the style? (Which in my subjective view is wayyy too gray).

Why do those things have to be tightly coupled all of a sudden? We've made it through decades without breaking theming, what changed?
