Absolutely. My thoughts exactly. It's like I can skip reading all the lore of today (and past 10 years or so) and just read this as all that I need to build a profitable software product.
Whats App uses your phone # as authentication and identity. There is no username and password. So connecting to your phone is only way to verify you are who you are.
Great job. This is great to see as I'm working on something related. I actually built a tool that's used in clinics where your blood pressure readings, risk factors, etc.. are entered and the the diagnosis and treatment plan is generated according to guidelines. Hi everyone - I built this tool with a couple of doctors and an infectious disease expert. We realized CDC protocols for handling Ebola were complex and wanted to put some simplicity to it, without losing on the medical rigour. Now anyone in the world can triage ebola almost like an expert.
Would be curious to hear if you like this format of answering medical questions. We're considering expanding it and doing it for more common conditions (flu, pregnancy, etc..).
I use evernote everyday. I put everything in there -- status reports I update every week, my own git cheatsheet, business ideas, documents I use repeatedly (e.g. instructions to ramp up new developers on my project), etc..
But what really got me using evernote is the combination of Fuji Scansnap + Evernote. Now any important mail or receipts I need archived I just scan them and they're in evernote forever.
And their iPhone app is a life saver, anything I need on the go, I retrieve from evernote. Forgot my health card? No worries it's scanned and available on my phone via evernote.
I love the product, but yeah it still boggles me why they need so much money and how you can build a big company from such an inexpensive product.
I've been using Balsamiq for 2+ years. I use it a lot for mobile apps. Unfortunately, Balsamiq has been painful to use lately for mocking up mobile screens. It doesn't have the latest mobile ui elements so I have to build them up from scratch. This update doesn't change this.
There's a market for an easier way to mockup mobile app screens and Balsamiq is barely addressing this segment right now. I am waiting for the day a new product comes out specifically designed for mocking up mobile apps.
EXACTLY my thoughts. The reduction of snacking distractions and washroom breaks has always been a productivity boon for me in Ramadan. Nothing to do but pray and code. I love it.
Can someone explain the opportunity in Pair? I tried it for a few days with my wife. Cool concept and thumb kiss was cute but we later reverted to iMessage just cause its more convenient and accessible. What 'pain point' does pair solve?
I'm in Canada and incorporated in Canada and was able to open a bank and merchant account in the US, as well as take Amex cards in USD. The setup:
1) Bank account with Harris bank. They are excellent for setting a bank account remotely.
2) USD merchant account with Moneris. They are ok but today I would probably just go with Stripe.
3) Amex is the tricky one. They require a physical us address so I used my friend's who lives I'm the US.
"tiny thing -> gigantic idea" + "maybe it’s a bad idea to have really big ambitions initially", could suck us in however to one of PG's 'mistake founders made': "Marginal Niche" (from http://www.paulgraham.com/startupmistakes.html).
So I guess a question is how to distinguish between marginal niche, and something small in a huge market. I guess it's market size and gut feel of potential.
