I absolutely love the book Chip War by Chris Miller. A fantastic history of the semiconductor industry and the geopolitical and economic consequences of its development.
I’m curious what effects it would have on polarization. I can imagine a world where people subscribe to moderation label sets managed by different political parties or ideological sects where we get back to what is implicit in other social media platforms, but at least here people would have to actively choose to bias the content they receive.
I was surprised that given where the movie went, there seemed to be little discussion of the idea of banning personalized advertising. While it would be difficult to stomach for the companies who've thrived on that business model, the social consequences and business incentives of personalized advertising are corroding our society.
