In order to understand why romanians take this so seriously, you need to understand the context. Romania is an ex-communist country from eastern Europe and is widely regarded by the western Europe as poor and corrupt. On top of this, Romania has the largest Roma minority in the region ~500.000 according to wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_(Romani_subgroup). There is a lot of confusion regarding the terms: romanian, roma, romani. In the last 20 years there were several waves of romanian immigrants hitting the western europe, including the Roma minority which are highly nomadic by tradition and very visible in the west because they beg and steal aggressively and live in slums in very primitive conditions. This lead to the association romanians = gipsies, thiefs, primitives etc. The current campaign is a response to these stereotypes, which unfortunately are easily promoted in western europe especially since western mass media can't pick on blacks and arabs anymore cause that's clearly racist and open racism is not trendy anymore.

But last week I found Google's Go lang, and after days of bench marking I had to admit that Go is much more suitable for almost anything you would do in D (except inline assembly). Save yourself some time and take a look at Go. You will thank yourself later.

I can easily guess that you never ever tried to sell ~400.000 products and you have no ideea about what this means logistically. If they tried to sell them themselves, It would have taken years to get a warehouse, employ and train enough people to handle those orders, invest in warehousing equipment, management etc. Although I don't like to wait, I think they handled it rather well until now. The best thing they can do from now on is to make sure that RS and Farnell don't remain the only 2 channels of distribution.

Wow, the things must be pretty bad if UK's (software) engineering future depends so badly on this piece of hardware. Personally I doubt that RPi will change anything.RPi is just a bigger and more powerful Arduino. If you wanted to do embedded devices experimentation, you would have done it by now with Arduino. Basic programming can be done on any netbook and I refuse to believe that even the poorest kids in UK can't afford a cheap netbook. Is there anything else revolutionary about RPi other than the price ?
Everything is big in USA. Even the MRI's. We in Europe developed some smaller MRIs. They are cheaper and have better mileage per gallon but are very uncomfortable.
It seems Israel is oppressing it's own people, somehow like Syria. I wonder if the democratic armies of the west could overthrow the regime in Israel right after they finish with the Syrian one. The people in Palestine are killed while protesting for a long time now but nobody seemed to care. I guess this is a good opportunity to bring justice to the region. If I was a "classical" manager, of course not. If I was a slightly honest manager I'd give a 1.3x - 1.5x salary. I've met one honest manager in 7 years (maybe I'm unlucky). One thing that makes your scenario highly improbable: Very often the good programmers are not the ones that write 3x more code than the others but those who solve the problem with less code and avoid some huge pitfalls on the way (This ideea is widely popular on the internets). Easy to guess.. managers rarely see what you didn't do and even more rarely appreciate it.

The situation in NK is continuously presented in negative terms(lots of speculative numbers and information is presented as facts). The people "die of hunger" (and the media presents images with sick kids as if this is the fault of Kim Jong Il), they are oppressed and the immediate suggestion is that US and the world somehow has this obligation to solve this problem.They forget somehow (lie by omision) to mention that a lot of the hunger and sickness is provoked by the embargo imposed on them by US.The second lie is that the leaders of north Korea are crazy, and that they have atomic bomb and want to attack others around, without rational reason.This is a lie, they only threatened to defend themselves in case they are attacked (all this while they are surrounded and provoked by US and South Korea navy). If you watch closely, it's the same recipe applied to Iran and Irak. Present rumors about victims and atrocities, weapons of mass destruction, insane leaders and intentions of war as facts and propose an invasion if some vague terms are not respected by the "rogue state" all this because we have to defend ourselves right ? Did Iran or NK ever say they want to implement preemptive strikes like US ? No, but still they are seen as the aggressors here and not US which is all over them spying and making plans and publicly announcing that "nothing is off the table". And tell me this is possible because mass media tells the truth (we know in the case of Irak that mass media lied together with the Bush administration but now you want to pretend that was an "isolated case").
In China they prevent you to speak. In the west they let you speak as much as you want but the state ignores you and propaganda machine covers you with noise. The european powers fear the referendums like hell. If still by some miracle some bunch of guys manage to unite over some slogan or message not tolerated by the state and put pressure on the state institutions in unauthorized meetings(unauthorized by the same state - duh conflict of interests) then the police kicks in and abuse and arrest everything that moves. I don't ask you to agree and praise some other regimes, I don't ask you to go somewhere else where it's better. I just ask you to see the bullshit and the hypocrisy of the west.
The NK guys may not be right but that does not make the US guys automatically right.
