Free speech in the western world ended precisely when out of fear people were not allowed to poke fun at certain religious figures. Thereafter governments noticed that free speech is not such a valued freedom after all and as such they can carve away bits and pieces. Good luck regaining them now that, as we can see, the US has a growing number of people willing to enforce laws made by corrupt governments. The UK will be fine.
