EngageUAT is a new service that has been growing for the last 2 years. We are looking for a Ruby on Rails developer to join our team. EngageUAT is an online tool focused on user acceptance testing. We are a small team with the opportunity to gain a lot of experience and responsibility. Our main team is located in Chicago. The position is available remotely.
Our current stack is Ruby on Rails with Backbone and ReactJS for the views.

Be careful though. Yes, you are young and yes the world is your oyster but everything still has consequences good or bad. Passion doesn't mean you have to throw yourself at the work while ignoring other factors.
Passion may be working for 3 - 6 months to save to go to a development bootcamp or just working through it. I know several have programs to get financing to do it, if that is a possibility.
I've hired people from dev bootcamp and can say these programs are worth it. Just be smart about it.
If you are passionate, then dedicating several months to save money to go to one of the schools by taking any job while staying sharp should be worth it. To the point, you are 18 yrs old and can take the few months now of working a whole to set up the rest of your life.
Just don't go in debt. That lasts awhile, and I'm sure there's plenty of people here who have been in it through a bad startup.

I have a short attention span for sites and after clicking around for approximately 30 seconds I have no clue what is going on. It seems to be an expanded team environment PaaS?
If I didn't click on this from hacker news, I would have bounced immediately.
The other thing is if I can't understand their marketing website, I have little faith that I would understand the product if using it.

I understand they have more clients to please than myself. Even a smaller window of time would be helpful or to know it is going to be done in off hours. There's no reason I should be fine with this as a paying customer.
This is rather disconcerting. They are given us a window of 48 hours where our site will be down for 60 seconds. On top of that we cannot schedule the time with them.
60 seconds may seem like a small inconvenience but it is one still the same. I host a few clients on their servers and I need to relay this information. I sound like a jackass being that I can't give more specifics on the timing of the server being down to my clients. How does Heroku not feel the same?
I am appreciative of the update but that is also what I pay them to do.
Isn't all of this just blown out of proportion? Why not focus on how to help improve ember.js than one person's response? Even if that person contributes to the documentation and to the project. Get over it already.
That's one of the reasons they are complaining because it is ridiculous there isn't anything set up. Now it might not just be one rogue star rating but maybe a collection of others. But there is no room for error when you can get fired by having a 4.6 and not 4.7 star rating.

I am not debating that Uber is a huge help for getting business. I just feel that their employee conditions are not what many others expect in their daily jobs. I don't feel that is wrong.
It's not as simple as you state. Uber gets a lot of the business so the drivers won't have work without them. That 4.7 is out of 5 also and it is true about the terminations. I have witnessed the mass firings and how they are handled.
Drivers also can't dispute their ratings so it takes one person to give them a one star which could lead to being fired. And can you truly say all customers are fair in their ratings?
The best thing that could happen for these drivers is having another company open up to compete against uber. Then they wouldn't be a commodity.
If they were not "taxi drivers" than everyone would be furious at how they are treated.
I agree fully with either they are incompetent or dishonest. I hope this response gets more press because Heroku better be beyond perfect from this point on. There is no excuse for this.
These will be very helpful to the mobile community. It's great to read about larger scale services and how they tackled mobile. It was great when LinkedIn shared about their new mobile app and the development efforts.
I am interested in hearing how much was in RubyMotion. I would have been more excited to hear the whole thing was. I am not knocking the architecture. They have proven to know what they are doing when it comes to development and business. I am just waiting to hear about bigger projects for RubyMotion.
I was a little surprised to see so much dedicated to HAML in an HTML/CSS tutorial. The author's background is as an instructor at the starter league which is heavy on Rails. HAML is widely used in that community so his perspective might be slightly bias.
But it is still useful to know and see there are other ways to handle to write HTML.
And that is because it is more than "markup should be beautiful". I cringe when that is stated as the only reason. Markup that is simplified can lead to easier readability and fewer mistakes. It removes the worry if you forgot to close a tag and removes them all together.
I was hesitant at first after being so used to working with HTML but I am happy as ever after making the switch. I find my time is more productive and updating the html is much quicker.
