If you can build in one thing, I'd pick something equivalent to Omnisearch. That makes it much easier to find things. I always struggle with the default search.

They originally started with Gecko and switched to Chromium.

"There were a ton of issues using Gecko, starting with (at the time) no CDM (HTML5 DRM module) so no HD video content from the major studios, Netflix, Amazon, etc. -- Firefox had an Adobe deal but it was not transferable or transferred to any other browser that used Gecko -- and running the gamut of paper-cuts to major web incompatibilities especially on mobile, vs. WebKit-lineage engines such as Chromium/Blink."

Searchable. Works with sync. Stores the tabs as bookmarks.

EDIT: and recommended so it gets vetted by Mozilla.

I would disagree edge is fine.

It is untrustworthy as it will keep turning on features. Example - sync. If you aren't using sync, it will eventually turn it on. If you aren't syncing history it will turn that on at some point.

At least Brave and Chrome don't do that.

The most important part of profiles is being able to right-click on a link and open it in a different profile. I don't see that mentioned. I typically have multiple profiles open at once.

Edge has the best implementation where you can define sites opening in certain profiles. Pity ms ruined that browser - it is completely untrustworthy with it auto turning on options such as syncing.

Mozilla will lose 86 percent of its funding if the Google deal goes away. Unless they can somehow generate an equal amount there will be massive layoffs and Firefox will be in a death knell. So far they have not managed to wean themselves off the Google money.

Allowing choice is good. All that is going to happen though is chrome will take over on iOS.

I use the IOS "Due" app for this. I have it set-up to pull out items from Reminders that have days and times assigned.

Makes it really hard to forget those tasks.

You can achieve a similar effect in Obsidian by using the plugins Outliner and Zoom.

I still feel Logseq is still a better outliner (although I don't use it), Obsidian is better at handling the other use cases.

LOL - beat me to it.

I was reminded of this episode. From this episode it felt as though she was prevented from letting go and moving on by the AI.

Brave’s usage curve is still going up and the MAU is approaching 70 million. Firefox has another 115 million monthly active users. By Chrome’s numbers either is barely used.

Until I believe that Mozilla management are committed to making a great browser other than something they use to make money for other things I am out.

Firefox issues I have

  - profiles have no indicator on the taskbar so it isn't easy to see which is which when using multiple profiles at the same time (I don't want to have to use multiple Firefox versions just to know which profile is which on the taskbar).
  - when clicking an external link in another app I want it to open in whichever profile I used last, like chromium browsers
  - No pwa's (I don't want to use an external app)
  - Compact mode being unsupported (when watching media a pwa shows the biggest video view, Firefox non compact the least)
  - Ads being incorporated
  - Ads for Mozilla products
Things I like

  - uBO
  - Recommended extensions so I can have some faith they are checked to be legit.
Firefox just feels like a browser stuck in the past.

Currently using Brave. I don't like or use the crypto crap or most of their other big features (talk, vpn). I don't love any of our current browser options.

Tried Vivaldi multiple times. Does not stick.

Some of the issues I saw are

If you use multiple profiles at the same time there is no way to distinguish them on the task bar.

I also couldn’t find a tab handling method I like.

They also don’t seem to release on a regular cadence which makes me wonder how they are doing security updates.

Their UI is not open source.

I had to look this up as I didn’t grow up in the States. It was A&W.

Thunderbird rejoined Mozilla - from Wikipedia

“ On January 28, 2020, the Mozilla Foundation announced that the project would henceforth be operating from a new wholly owned subsidiary, MZLA Technologies Corporation, in order to explore offering products and services that were not previously possible and to collect revenue through partnerships and non-charitable donations.[69][70]”

There is definitely a downward usage trend from Mozilla own stats.

That recall still doesn’t fix the underlying issue with the autopilot.
