How come I haven't noticed that it isn't working, then?
>sneering at the efforts of others..
This is where you show your fanboy colors. The GP said something along the line "I don't think that is as amazing as you say", and you overreact, saying that they are, "sneering at others efforts". Another commenter said SpaceX is facing "incredible" criticism in HN. All signs of over reaction, typical of fanboys when their need and expectation of unquestioning acceptance and praise from everyone, for their object of worship, are not met..
>You probably see yourself as sophisticated, remarks are no different than a 7 year old putting down somebody for throwing like a girl, It's adolescent, not contrarian.
More typical, hurt fanboy reaction. Stop for a moment and and think about what exactly in my comment have provoked you to attack me in this fashion.
Getting stoked about trivial stuff and mistaking stunts for real achievements is one of the ways we will end up in Idiocracy. I see here, a whole generation of people reduced to a bunch of stupid cheerleaders...
The shame is on you. Not because you play along in this charade. But for how you see and project me for not taking part in it.
Look around. If you don't see it already, I won't be able to make you see. And what does the transistor has to do with the period we live in? I mean, right now, not 50 years earlier.
>It's fine to be critical, but let yourself get excited sometimes too.
Do you know why landing a rocket in salt water is bad. I mean, do you really, really know?
>I find the level of criticism for SpaceX on this site to be incredible.
This has to be the funniest comment I have seen today. There are more than one post regarding this event with 300+ votes. Still the level of criticism for Spacex on this site is "incredible", Really?
Sorry. We are living in a period where mediocrity and even complete fraudulent stuff is hailed as profound and "amazing". People with differing opinions matter, and I would say they matter more than ever.
And I don't think people love being a contrarian". It is quite easy being a fanboy, but it is hard to go against popular opinion, and be a "contrarian". There is no love in being a contrarian, there is only hate and ridicule.
>concepts of love/relationships/family/jealousy/cheating
I share a similar view,
But our current set up won't allow for something like that.
When you take out those concepts, you will see a human being suddenly has a lot less potential disasters/sufferings hanging over his head, which makes him harder to control and exploit, which is all living in todays world is about. Being exploited nicely.
Give a man a family or put him in a 'romantic' relationship. You will see that he get reduced to pulp, Easily controllable and mouldable into anything as required by the state and similar establishments...
Sorry, that is nothing new, and it proves nothing.
If money could buy happiness, they there would be zero cases of rich people killing themselves.
Your argument is like saying a car can buy you happiness because one guy with car was able to reach hospital in case of an emergency, and was saved, while another guy, with a similar emergency died on the way, because he had no car...
Nature has given us needs that needs to be full filled, like thirst and hunger. There is also higher level needs, like need to fit in and seen as a desirable mate.
What do we get in return of this pursuit? Pleasure in some cases or relief from pain, in other. In other words, it is a fair game, IF you consider that pleasure and pain are "real".
Now ads are evil because the create needs that often conflicts with our natural drives. For example, a man who loses sleep, or does not spend time with family for advancing in career, often so that he can buy more stuff. In this case, the man sees pleasure in seeing his bank balance increase and makes him afford more and more expensive stuff.
Now this pleasure, I say, is a lie. Because it is not natural, and does not serve a natural purpose. Also, this manipulation by Ads also serves to distract people from constructive thinking.
Imagine all the revolutions and all the breakthroughs of the world. They came from People who think freely. When you are distracted 24x7 by ever increasing ads, where do you have time to think for yourself? I am not saying that all the creativity from the world has disappeared. But imagine if the great artists of the past were distracted by Ads like we have today? Do you think the great works in arts and literature would have been created?
I am not even considering ads that Inject fear and insecurity into the minds of the masses to make then spend, spend, spend all day long..../rant
I posted the same to reddit also. I was down voted heavily.
Anyway, I want to ask this.
How did we get here? How did the whole tech crowd okayed the use of perpetually connected devices with cameras (on both sides!) and microphones to allow operating them without notifying the user.
I mean, did no one ask, why is there no indicator light on this camera (or mic) on my net connected phone that I take with me to the most private of places?
So what about forcing these gadget makers to add notification that cannot be bypassed in software to alert users when camera or mic is active? Let them add them in all the new devices.
Also, pickup your phone right now and stick a piece of tape on that camera (both of them). Will you do that? Naa...you won't, because that is too 'inconvenient' to remove it when you have to take a picture..
Easier? How? Because you said so?
>promote one's own superiority via dismissal
