Just like to thank Backblaze for posting this time and time again. Putting out hard numbers like this instead of some editorialized blog is the best advertising you can do to reach tech savvy people.
> It took me years to convince upstream to revert the responsible dmcrypt workqueue commit and fix this.
As a regular user who would never track an issue like this down i just wanna say thank you!
You will also never get any software updates or support in 3rd party roms.
Take any Chinese phone elephone/unihertz/etc. and look at their software update history.
You will read many promises of upgrades to the next android version on paid review channels and zero delivery every time.
These phones are supported for 6 months after launch at best and are basically e-junk.
How did it shut it down? What setbacks did it induce to Russians? The headline reads like sensationalized clickbait for satelites changing service frequencies.
And this is why no one listens to scientists. When it comes to actually standing up for something objectively right they fold like author and fall in line with status quo.
Why do climate denial or anti-vax movements exist? Its because academia lost all integrity in the eyes of the public. You can wave all the research you want in front of their eyes but no one will listen as science is just another part of marketing nowadays.
Let it sink in that speaking out the truth is career suicide and institutions publicly portrayed as sources of truth are actively pushing for it to stay that way.
The biggest problem is that politicians use and legitimize social networks.
The fact that fb/google etc. have detailed profiles on all world leaders and none of them care because in return they get to farm likes and get their tweets featured in media speaks volumes on how much governments really care about national security or even general privacy.
Funny test: this post has 61 votes, 16 comments, is 21 minutes old and is on front page. It will be "dead" and off the front page in the next hour if usual hn moderation is applied.
This usually happens to thread where majority of comments go against the grain.
Edit: thread is a bit over 1 hour old, 125 points, 119 comments and on page 4. All the other threads on page 4 are of comparable vote/comment count but at least 20hrs old. If you scroll through page 4 you will not find a single thread as popular and as fresh as this one there. Maybe i'm biased but id like to think that my prediction was at least half correct.
* I choose energy provider x
* Friend has bought a part of those remote solar plants and also connected to provider x
* Friend sells his surplus energy to provider x at low price
* Provider x can now sell the power to:
a) His customers (me), and make next to nothing
b) Sell it to the international grid and make bank, then proceed to buy energy for me at going rates making me foot the whole bill.
Guess what happens, and who gets rich. This is market liberalization at work. You reap what you have sown.
