I just bootstrapped in production my personal startup SaaS project, RotativaHQ. It’s a distributed cloud service designed for scalability, reliability and performance: https://rotativahq.com
I have plenty of experience with helping companies (and startups) overcome difficult problems and deliver their ideas to market.
I'm the guy that built this. In some hosting environments you are not allowed to run that or graphics libraries are missing... not a lot of alternatives to use external service. Also, consider API key validation can be quick (1 ms avg) and so for latency if the endpoint is not too far. The time to build PDF can be not irrelevant and doing that on a fast CPU and balanced servers can even end up having better times using this SaaS then on your average server. Also, if you are using .Net client you get also protobuf serialization and smart packaging of HTML assets. This makes it even quicker.
- Web development - modern development, from draft idea to production (full stack)
- Asp.net WebApi, MVC
- React + Redux + RxJs, BackboneJs + MarionetteJs, Javascript (ES6), Coffeescript
- Sql, DB design, Nosql (Redis, Azure storage)
I’m the author of the popular library Rotativa (create PDF in .Net) - 150K downloads to date: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Rotativa - https://github.com/webgio/Rotativa
