Male and female are clearly defined (not really, but let's assume for the arguments sake). Intersex people exist, and they are impossible to identify without them telling you about it. So these people are really "assigned" a gender at birth. They might not be a huge amount of the population, but they exist. So why not use "assigned at birth"? It includes them and doesn't hurt anyone at all. I'd ask you to reconsider, whether the authors made a political statement, or whether you made this a political statement by yourself. Because I read it and not a single political thought crossed my mind...

There seems to be a lot of pro-congress sentiment ITT right now, which is worrying to me.

TikTok is a capitalist social media company that certaily deserves a lot of scrutiny, especially considering ties to China.

But if you think Congress did a good job here...then I don't know how we live in such wildly different worlds. Asking that CEO "does TikTok access the home wifi network?" is such an incomplete question. Everyone of us would immediately ask a clarifying question: "do you mean: does tiktok access data on other devices in the network" or "does tiktok monitor traffic within the network". These are legitimate questions, but to ask a completely idiotic question and then not let the man clarify is just embarassing. Same thing with "Have you changed the source code?" WTF does this even mean?? It's as if I'd asked somebody "Have you eaten?", not have you eaten today, or have you ever eaten. Have you eaten. Yes the fucking source code has been changed. It's being changed all the time???

Please...Congress already had an opinion on this before the hearing ever started and congress made sure to ask deliberately unanswerable questions to hit the man with "Yes or no????" as soon as he opened his mouth.

I'm certainly not a fan of TikTok, but if you see this as anything other than the US congress trying to get a unprecedented ban of a foreign competitor, you are being naive. 150 million US americans use TikTok. They are too big, they can't be as easily controlled and most importantly: they make money that belongs to Meta, Google and all our other friendly data monsters.

Don't be silly, this is not about national security, the CCP or anything like that. It's about money, like always.

> Was surprised to find out eSims are not just data but an actual chip.

Why? A normal (removable) SIM Card is already an IC and not just fixed data.

Sorry, I exaggerated slightly. I think the hardware itself is mostly okay. It's just that my part of the work is providing a working OS on top of it, which is an absolute nightmare with Petalinux.

I mean it's alright. It'll spit out an image that is going to work and you won't have to understand anything about Bitbake/Yocto and so on. But that's exactly the problem: Petalinux cripples Yocto so bad with their "let's make this as easy as possibly"-philosophy, that it makes you go nuts if you want anything slightly custom. We have plenty of different layers for distros, various platforms and applications. Fitting Petalinux into these is a pain.

If you are going to build your OS for exactly one product that runs on a Xilinx device, go for it. If you wanna reuse something across multiple devices, I'd stay away.

Seriously, whenever I need to touch anything Xilinx I cry. PetaLinux is the most useless abstraction over Yocto ever. It does one thing well: build an image exactly as Xilinx specified. As soon as you need to change the tiniest thing the whole system implodes. And as is tradition in this sector their whole support scheme is: "sorry, didn't do it EXACTLY like we did, so no support."

If you want to make your Embedded Linux guy happy, stay far far away from anything Xilinx.
