Shopify is amazing for merchants. For developers, it's the anti-Stripe. The APIs barely make sense, the documentation is terrible, the system design choices will make you wonder what they were thinking. The whole thing feels janky and put together with duct tape. You'll rarely get dev support as a partner.
Shopify does not give first-class support to its public APIs - they use a separate set of private APIs to manage stores using their dashboard so they have very little direct feedback about public APIs.

This wasn’t the case until they modernised their APIs to Graphql. I now see 500s and other errors from their API.
This was absolutely unheard of before.

Have you used Shopify?
As someone who had to look at it I just can't express how bad is everything at shopify - support, technology, operation... Just marketing BSing is ok, that's how they get people onboard.

Any Shopifyers want to give their take?
My. Stocks. Worth. So. Much.
No point to work anymore.
No point to work anymore.
Makes sense. All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy.
Shopify only had 54 developers in 2015 and 4000 at the end of 2021? They recently announced they will double the engineering work force, so I assume 2020 they had 2000 developers.
I thought Shopify has been here for long time so 54 developers in 2015 was a surprising small number. But 4000 Developers by 2021 is a surprisingly big number.
I am cautiously optimistic, never heard a single bad thing from Shopify. Although there are Shopify App developers [1] with a fair amount of criticism.
