Money is power. Real, political power. As wealth gathers in few hands, so does power.
Personally (and I admit that this is emotial) I find it provocative that a lot of people have the power to just not contribute to the rest of the world in any meaningful way, and make other people work for them. They don't point at the workers and say "you peasant, give me fruit", but by the reality that we all need money to live they still controll us, and can choose a life where they enjoy the fruit of other people's labour withouth contributing themselves. And if they want they can point to their favorite person and say "I grant you the ability to also freeload on the rest of the world for the rest of your life, here is 10 million USD." I see us all together here in the world, trying to survive and have a decent time before we die, and then some people are allowed to just enjoy the fruits of other peoples labour.

One problem is that economic growth has a big correlation with carbon emissions.

Environmental decoupling is the notion that we can have growth and preserve nature. For now is just a myth

I imagine that metric like 'actual purchasing power' would be much more important to general masses, like myself.
Then again, there might be really obvious reason why I'm wrong.
