I've been playing guitar going on 20 years and I have never thought of or heard of anyone playing guitar in front of a mirror to see what notes their fingers are playing. It's much easier to just turn the fretboard slightly and look at your fingers (which really you only have to do as a beginner).

It's funny that you mention Alaska, because they are the #1 overall state when it comes to Senate and Electoral College "voter power". As you said, they get the same Senate representation despite having a fraction of the population of NJ. In addition, each vote cast in Alaska counts far more towards the presidential election than a vote in NJ does.

Acknowledging pain caused by the company's actions could be seen as admitting to directly causing psychological distress. IANAL but I'm sure these company's legal departments want to white-wash the messaging as much as possible.

Agreed 100%. I would love the opportunity to work 20 hrs a week with a reasonable hourly rate. I have a side business which has been getting neglected due to the mental (and time) demand of my fulltime job. If I had experience in Rails I'd jump on this but all my experience is in the .NET realm.

1k lines per week sounds like quite a lot. I'm a dev whose role is mainly supporting legacy systems and sometimes I write probably ~50 lines in a week and feel incredibly productive due to the issues I've resolved.

This was almost my EXACT experience ad well. differences are I took 6 months off, wasnt working on an ad-like product, and my pay boost getting back into the market was 48% instead of 50%.

I thought my first programmy/computery thing I did was make games on the BYOND platform but I completely forgot about ADRIFT! I wish I could remember what my ADRIFT games even were because I'd love to explore the psyche of my 10-year-old self as well.

I find that Duolingo is to human languages what Codecademy is to programming languages. It's gamefied and fun but will only scratch the surface teaching you the very basics. In order to truly learn the language you have to put in the much harder work elsewhere. That's not to say that both platforms dont have a place, they still can be pretty valuable tools for beginners.
