The alternative still has to deal with the problem of paying for news share. News are shared all the time on Hacker News, Reddit, will these sites have to pay too?
It's more like people are talking about the Spanish flu a lot, and at the same time realizing that the "Spanish" part actually misinformed them.
I was talking to someone about the Spanish flu and they casually commented "oh last time it's Europe now it's Asia's turn". Took me a few more minutes to inform them it's not from Spain. Both of us now realized that's a bad name. It's also the first time we mention "Spanish flu" in our lives, there's no problem using a more accurate name.
I see this as a community effort to use a more convenient word. It's not that political, no political party or government agencies are actively pushing for it.
It's his strategy from the beginning: Fill the news with lots of inconsequential dumb things to set the bar really low, then claim success if some of the things he does is not a total disaster.
You still rely on your cellphone and network. If Bitcoin becomes common enough, governments will find ways to ban / infiltrate / manipulate the network. It has already come down to seizing your land and gold, why don't they seize your phone, wallet, cut the Internet, arrest anyone who trade with Bitcoin?
Most likely we will see an arms race where some companies try to filter out AI content while others try to imitate humans as best they could.
