> These kinds of posts always focus on the complexity of running k8s...

Yes but that is also the worst already that you could criticize about k8s.

Complexity is dangerous because if things are growing beyond a certain threshold X you will have side effects that nobody can predict, a very steep learning curve and therefor many people screwing up something in their (first) setups as well as maintainability nightmares.

Probably some day someone will prove me wrong but right now one of my biggest goals to improve security, reliability and people being able to contribute is reducing complexity.

After all this is what many of us do when they refactor systems.

I am sticking with the UNIX philosophy at this point and in the foreseeable future I will not have a big dev-team at my disposal as companies like Alphabet have to maintain and safe-guard all of this complexity.

It is an arms race and it is the right time for the industry to use the growing fear and demand for security in the global population to make some extra $$$ (just seen from a purely economical point of view of course).

I agree that it is probably inevitable but there is also people who don't join the race and that is lifting my hopes.

I hope I did not offend you somehow by phrasing it too American but you seem to understand what I say just fine.

This is a very rational point of view but to be completely valid consumers would have to be rational consumers which I really don't see.

It is absolutely no stupid question. That you ask this just shows you are a reasonable person :)

1. It is a status symbol (as in "my car is bigger than your car")

2. It is sturdier and has more weight so it will physically dominate the average car in an accident and provide more security to it's passengers.

Thx for letting cops and other entities bust more people with your funny device.

Sorry I got absolutely no respect for this invention of yours as I know people personally who suffer from law enforcement's false positives. You'll only help them with it but I guess making money is more important today.
