Why arent people using SVG for this sort of thing? Isnt that HTML5's vector graphics format?
I supose if you're using icons w/ the express purpose of using them with in-line text, then this would be Ideal... but just seems like a weird hack, when there is SVG available...

I guess web design has always sorta been about pushing the bounderies of browser quirks, but I kinda thought we were moving away from that. You would think the intended use of vector graphics would be designed to be just as good if not better than using a font to do the same thing.
Jobs aren't obsolete. There are plenty of jobs. Part time, low wage, no benefits jobs. Careers? Full time, living wage that can support a family, full benefits packages? Those are becoming obsolete, and fast.

C may not be the easiest language to learn, but you wouldn't want newbies messing with systems programming anyway.
Higher level languages give you a more abstract view, but when you are doing systems programming that's not what you want, you need to be in full control. Only C gives you precise control of what the machine is doing all the time. You don't want a garbage collector to kick in unexpectedly, you don't want data structures to be allocated in mysterious ways.
The article is a bit confusing. If I take it correctly, a few casinos offered him nearly 50:50 odds, and a discount on his losses if he lost more than ~500k. In other words, a great deal, worth ~$50k. And then he proceeded to have amazing games, winning millions by sheer luck. The article doesn't talk much about the luck this requires, and one wonders if he does have something else going on.
