There's also the important question of jurisdiction and closeness.

If I have to share my data with someone, I'd rather it be someone distant, and with limited capability. Sharing my data with Google is effectively the same thing as sharing my data with the FBI. And the FBI can stick guns in my face and lock me in a steel cage for anything they don't like in said data.

While I'm no fan of Putin, his regime can do precisely nothing actionable with my data, so long as I don't set foot in its territory.

These metrics are based on traffic to chat.openai.com.

Speaking for myself, I used to use the crappy chat interface but I now exclusively use tooling I've built up around their API.

So, n=1, I'm using OpenAI much more, despite using chat.openai.com less.

Got it, thanks.

But that's really odd because most mobile MVPs are either just PWAs or some React Native shit compiled to binaries.

Why the hell wouldn't they just release it on the web?

Aside: I see a ton of hype about threads.net all over HN and elsewhere, but it's still useless thus far.

It loads a javascript-driven animation of what appears to be a galaxy, any not much else. There is a QR Code at the bottom right corner that appears to be invalid.

Not sure what I'm missing. 10MM+ signups through what mechanism? There is no signup form as far as I can tell. Do they restrict full content access for linux-hosted browsers?

edit: after saving and reversing saturation, I've resolved the QR Code to https://www.threads.net/download/redirect, which only offers binary download options, and only for mobile platforms.

Where is the web interface?

One of the most insane things I hear repeated constantly is that "servers are cheaper than programmers", implying that runtime efficiency doesn't matter, only developer efficiency.

Which is all well and good, until you need to hire all the network engineers, systems administrators, devops people, security staff, datacenter operations managers, database sharding engineers, etc to manage the 10x more hardware and network surface area you have to throw at your slow codebase.

What?

Merely existing on the playground, on the field, or in the cafeteria in the 80s and 90s reinforced the idea that being different was bad.

How is this unique to post-2012? At least Instagram doesn't hold you up against a chain-link fence while TikTok punches you in the gut for being different.

Good point.

A $1.3T behemoth that readily reports Ring data to the pigs and runs large-scale cloud contracts with the Feds totally won't run these cards through a UV-B or X-ray scanner to correlate and log the activation codes.

You're 100% safe with Amazon. Hell, they even have a smile in their logo. Who could possibly doubt that?

Yes, buy the Amazon gift card from a store with cameras, with an account set up with your burner SIM purchased from a place with cameras, and pick it up from an Amazon Locker blanketed with cameras. Use cash with fully-tracked serial numbers for all these purchases.

Sounds like a solid plan.

You guys don't seem to realize that tyranny won decades ago, and you're fighting a war that has long been lost.

We are all serfs and slaves.

You're missing the point that Mullvad still has your connecting IP address.

There have been countless cases demonstrating that "no-log" VPN providers definitely do log, and even if by some miracle Mullvad doesn't, they can be compelled to start doing so, as the Protonmail case demonstrates.

This does nothing to reduce the paper trail.

If you really really really trust Mullvad (and you shouldn't), just use Monero.

You're not really allowed to mention this, nor are you allowed to note that the current Ukraine government is an illegitimate installation by FVEY IC in 2014, after the democratically elected one was overthrown. Also best not to point out that very large contingents of the defenders are actual literal Nazis.

Our marching orders from our media betters are to uncritically root for Ukraine, so that's what we'll do.

I can't speak to the newer UniFi garbage, but the selling point for their Edge network products was that you could have Cisco-ish managed switches and routers without paying the absurd prices for ASICs, licenses, ios upgrades, parasitic middleman distributors, etc.

edit: Oops, disregard, I've violated HN hivemind statutes, despite being completely factually correct!

What I meant to say is that US law enforcement, and in particular the FBI, are 100% perfect in every way. Nobody has EVER used lawful request overreach to ruin the lives of innocent people. Praise be to J. Edgar Hoover!

Everyone who works there is extremely talented. Fabien, Sean, Allen, etc. Jeff has a very keen eye for it.

He's funny, too. Highly recommend The Jeff and Casey Show for podcast content.

I see a lot missing, here. No assembly, compilers, linear algebra, or digital design courses that you find in every other CS program.

How did this courseload get accredited? (and I say this as someone who never graduated - just showing some respect for the courseload required by some of my peers, here)
