I would guess it's a talent pool thing. If you're hiring in-office you're limited to locals and candidates willing to relocate. If you're hiring remotely, the pool is much larger not only in terms of size, but in range of compensation. For example you might be able to get a mid-level engineer living in the midwest for the cost of a junior in a major city.

> The bill exempts the following categories:

> The primary residence of at least one owner.

> The primary residence of a parent or child of at least one owner.

> Cooperative and condominium units that are appraised at less than $5 million in the previous three years.

> Properties and dwelling units that are rented to a NYC primary resident.

Just to clarify, income over $5,000,000/year is taxed at 10.3%. Under a million is 4-6%.

There was actually an app store rule for the first couple of years after notifications became available, basically saying don't use it for promotions. A few apps actually got pulled for sending spammy notifications.

But then everyone started doing it and Apple stopped enforcing the rule. It may still be in there somewhere as a "guideline."

Was the terrible consequence of pirating MP3s that music is now cheap and widely available because media outlets had to compete with Napster?

So am I understanding correctly that all of this "unauthorized traffic" was their customers...using their product?

Every time I read one of these articles it sounds like the author was forced to adopt a smartwatch at gunpoint.

Similarly, the article also glosses over the issue of disability. Perhaps because the US tends to treat its bus system as welfare, it is adapted heavily to people with disabilities and limited mobility. I'm sure there are solutions to this, but at the moment removing bus stops tends to disenfranchise people who can't walk longer distances.

I really want to like Halide, and I've had it save a number of photos that the native app couldn't handle. But as a lifelong photographer, technologist, and occasional developer, I still somehow get really lost in the inscrutable icons and self-hiding what-have-you of the UI. I think I want it to be about 50% uglier.

It's less an issue of access than affordability. The term is "energy insecurity" - https://www.energypolicy.columbia.edu/publications/energy-in...

The difference is that in this case OpenAI was able to produce the requested information without compromising security for their other customers.

Interesting. Apparently the photo from the article is "Voice of the ash forest" (https://www.maximelegarevezina.com/en/tirage-voix-de-la-for%...) and the one linked above is "Keeper of the Ashes."

That picture just feels like a case study in why Apple drug their feet on features like that for so long. If you let people set a background and change the font, you're going to have unreadable purple comic sans over kittens within minutes.

The "people think they're guaranteed a job" narrative is because the author is a right-wing journalist who "exposes" academics.

If you want to go minimal on the backcountry device as well, PLBs are nice as a barebones alternative that only require a battery change every few years and don't need a subscription.

The "reach" gesture was actually introduced with the iPhone 6 Plus, due to its larger size.

I finally got to try one around 2002, and I have to say it completely changed my opinion. The price didn't matter, the wacky overhyped introduction didn't matter, self-balancing was such a revolutionary technology that I immediately saw where it was going.

Now I ride a Onewheel.

This thread already has more comments than anything I've seen in months. The design is absolutely doing its job as a marketing tool.

Some people will love it, some people will hate it, a lot of people are probably just kind of confounded by it but will come to like it after they see a few in person.

Either way it's absolutely dominating a news cycle, which isn't easy to do.

Or just one big one! https://onewheel.com

I switched to one of these after having a few too many wipeouts on a longboard. It's been fantastic.
