I also just moved from Linux Mint to Cachy and haven't had to use a single AUR package (yet). I use some relatively obscure programs too.

I was nervous about this too - but it's "just" the AUR. That means it's only unofficial packages, which we should always take great care when installing anyway.

GitLab. There's also the option of self hosting it on a cheap server if you don't like cloud services.

Python venv's is the #1 reason I've avoided working with it more. It used to be #2 behind strong typing, but now that Linux OSes' take up the default python install and block it from being used for quick scripts, it jumped to #1.

I've always wondered why Linux OSes that rely on python scripts don't make their own default venv and instead clobber the user's default python environment...

For people who want an easier approach, both NethServer and Cloudron have this packaged as an app for people who self host. The Cloudron one is not official yet and is a community developed one.

Would the author (or most people) have read the documentation before doing this action? I doubt it.

Self promotion, and seems somewhat fake? The front page of their websites has user testimonials from 2026.

This series will really make you examine social hierarchies, including the ones that exist today. They are no accident.
