> My views are something like what the average American believed in 1910. Were they literally Hitler also?

That's not really a great counterpoint considering how much inspiration Nazi Germany took from the amazing levels of racism the US had. Jim Crow, miscegenation, segregation, citizenship…

The average American in 1910 wasn't a little Hitler, he was a Big Hitler. Hitler's father, even.

Good try, though, eierkuchen. I can see past you and so can everyone else.

Even the upstarts are cashing in. I believe CXMT is making some serious cash now.

Just yesterday I saw people saying that Apple wouldn't increase prices until the next refresh.

And I agreed! So… holy shit. I think we're going to see even further price increases across the industry. There already were a ton, but it can always get worse, of course.

Thank you, OpenAI. What would have we done without your attempts at monopolizing destroying the memory market.

Yeah. Sorry if it wasn't clear, it's a stupid habit I picked up from Twitter that I can't quite get rid of.

That's the exclusive work of the Hyprborean dev (who himself is another giant crock of shit who I wish just wouldn't wake up ever again one day).

You can install it on your normal, average Arch installation anyways. Don't need to rip everything out from the root just for a pre-configured meme distro. It's not as if Omarchy had hard forks of all the software it steals, anyways. It really is just dotfiles.

His blog is a mix of zealous out-of-touch and unloved techbro shit and the most rancid far-right essays possible. Trust me, he's earned it.

It makes me feel insane that people just skip over this stuff. The guy is openly citing "people" like Tommy Robinson yet he's still a popular and respected distro guy? I'm going to commit a crime.

It's not hating, it's just this general reaction against strangers even seeing your posts.

I haven't actually been subject to this, yet, but I've seen enough people react negatively against others doing this that it saps all my desire to do anything other than just aimlessly scroll every once in a while. I can read the room, you know.

Sometimes I wonder why do instance admins even open up their instances? Just run it for your friends and those who you like and cut the crap.

It's not even about connecting to other people. I'm a toxic, friendless miserable asshole. I don't have anyone to connect with.

All I use social media for is to look at whatever funny piece of media I'm obsessed with currently and related things.

Unfortunately, Mastodon both has busted search and useless tags. Tumblr's search has been hilariously bad for ages now, but at least the tagging system is so comprehensive it more than makes up for it.

Mastodon is the worst of all worlds in that aspect.

Call me when the Fediverse has a search function that actually fucking works. Most of my time in social media is spent searching for keywords of whatever I'm interested in, which is one thing which Mastodon is absolutely awful at.

Also, while we’re at it, try to make Fediverse culture less insular and more open. There's no point in trying to reply to anyone since everyone hates everyone else. Pointless platform.

The keyword here is "in the EU".

Outside Western Europe, VW is priced like a premium upmarket brand (not quite luxury). Maintenance and general upkeep for a VW are easily two to three times the cost of an equivalent Japanese car.

Which wouldn't be an issue if the cars were actually built to their price point. But the VW cars we get here are shittier versions built in nasty factories. They break down if you look at them wrong. The build quality is nonexistent. They are absolutely an awful deal, no matter how you look at them. You also have to personally import parts from wherever they're available, because otherwise only the dealerships have parts and they are absurdly overpriced.

Also, European brands are afraid of exporting EVs. If you want an EV, you buy a Chinese car. There is no other option. It is as simple as that.

> if religiously you stick to the manufacturer recommended regular service intervals where they rip you off at every visit.

That's something you're supposed to do for any and every car. I had to do it on my Japanese cars to keep the warranty.

Also, the last people I want to hear complaining about being ripped off by dealership service intervals are Germans. At least for Chinese cars, you do it for the warranty. For German cars, you have to bring it in for the services at the specified interval (or, in many cases, even shorter intervals!) or else it will blow up in new and exciting ways and basically total the damn thing.

Oh, and the services for German cars start at around 1500 euros. Hope you're rich!

More fun driving dynamics aren't worth the extra twenty thousand dollars you need to buy the equivalent European car, let alone the ridiculous lifetime costs of ownership, such as maintenance.

I mean, seriously. I can buy a shitty Argentine-made base model used 5-year-old VW Amarok with 70K km on it for the same price as a brand new Chinese-made Changan Hunter (whether gas or REEV). The second one is also going to be far, far cheaper to fuel (if you choose the REEV), maintain and repair.

Let's not even talk EVs. Europeans exited the market before it even began. European brands only start to show up at around what, the 70-100K dollar bracket? Sure, the Porsche Taycan is cool and all, but I've never seen one. Meanwhile, BYDs, Deepals, MGs, and a million other random brands are only growing more and more common with each passing day.

Regarding Rwanda, I think we're forgetting that a large part of their success comes from their plundering of the Congo's resources, mineral and otherwise.

There have been two gigantic continent-wide wars over the Congo, for fuck's sake.
