You can say no but you will have to be tactful. A simple refusal might get you fired but asking for training or showing how you are inefficient at certain task, may send the message without embarrassing your boss.

I don't disagree but I don't know where they are getting their marketing material where they think developers can do devops. I suspect it might some sales tactics from these Cloud/DevOps companies.

As a developer, I hate k8s, but mostly because my management does not understand difference between developers and devops. They changed our job titles to devops engineers and fired sys admins. I understand k8s is complex for people who specialize in it, try imagining as a developer, you need to setup private vlan ingress. At least, on regular Linux, I know how to setup ip tables or look up 1000s of tutorial.

K8s and devops has destroyed us developers' productivity, confidence, and morale.

I think that is something that if you have done it before, it is easy but as someone who has never done this have no clue.

I mean I have a lot of local businesses that I frequent, but I deal with employees only. I can ask my server what problems they are facing but not really sure. Every business I know already has a website, social media page, etc.

I had luck meeting various business owners via networking events organized by Chamber of Commerce once. Maybe that's what I need to focus on.

How would you find a local client? Cold email? Networking events?

Thank you for sharing your story, I love webdev and development in general, but burning out in corporate culture. Maybe I should slowly move into indie development.

Feeling low too :(

A lot of non-technical people getting in position of power by smooching and then imposing whatever random buzzwords they read in a tweet.

In my company, all my devs are working on filling out TPS reports and management wonders why no development is being done. Also they don't understand difference between DevOps and Developer, so ever developer is expected to know how to manage Kubernetes and CI/CD pipeline. And they give a lip service to security and compliance but don't really allocate resources, so makes me feel so dirty.

Going to quit in 2022.
