Politics is not a game or a religious belief. It is a literal matter of life and death for millions of people who have very little power. (Hint: not tech workers.)
This isn't about the interests of tech workers, it's about our responsibility to society as a group of people who have been handed a lot of power. In a world with so much inequality and suffering, don't you think that's important?
> It's worth noting that antirez has, as is usual for him, dealt with this issue wonderfully by making a call without downplaying the importance of the problem.
He was doing okay until he wrote that everyone is a slave because having to follow "politically correct rules" is itself a form of slavery.
when you start investigating an outage, that is exactly when you should change your checkmark to yellow if not red. if you're as big as AWS there should not be any more than a minute or two between when your service goes down and when you actually update your status page to show that.
what's truly incredible is that S3 has been offline for h̶a̶l̶f̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶h̶o̶u̶r̶ two hours now and Amazon still has the audacity to put five shiny green checkmarks next to S3 on their service page.
they just now put up a box at the top saying "We are investigating increased error rates for Amazon S3 requests in the US-EAST-1 Region."
increased error rates? really?
Amazon, everything is on fire. you are not fooling anyone
Python 3 is a more modern, better language, that's why. Hopefully, grumpy will support it soon enough, though it's understandable that they started with 2.7 to support Google's huge older codebase.
The stuff about Trump is mostly verifiably true beyond reasonable doubt. ("I like to assault women.", dozens of women in his circles: "Yeah he does that.")
> there's 'women in tech' organisations that have been accused of framing technology leaders for sexual assault just to marginalize them
Just what kind of absurd anti-feminist conspiracy theories have you been reading? Are you honestly suggesting that this many of Applebaums colleagues are evil conspirators hell-bent on destroying an innocent man's life? I think you could do with some Occam's Razor and a moment to think about your attitude towards sexual assault and power.
