You said it yourself: you're already paying. Lots of people don't want to pay, so they use this for their hobby.

I have some insight into this as my ex ended up in a similar situation in Malaysia. Rich family, no free days, 5-22 work hours.

It took me a year to convince her that it was not ok. They took away her passport, phone, she wasn't allowed to go out without them. I was ready to help her but she did not want my help.

In the end I'm sure she had to pay her "employer" for breach of contract since she left early. I think she had less than $1000 saved from these 18 months of work.

The thing that made me angry the most is that the family was incredibly well off, yet thought they deserve a slave (or more than one) at home.

No, if they wanted to get rid of her there were a lot of easier solutions. As you may be aware, slaves can be sold.

I'm afraid that police wouldn't do a thing if a practice is widespread and accepted by most. Legally speaking it's not a scam because it's not a hidden charge.

The 3% credit card charge on the other hand... but I'd rather pay cash than confront the poor cashier.

I will just respond with a 1-star review.

It's printed on the menu so it's effectively legal, just dishonest.

> What happens if a tourist refuses to pay the fee?

Just about what would happen if you refuse to pay the bill, most likely you'll end up being shared on some Facebook group or worse.

The worst part of restaurant fees are the people (both owners and somehow the patrons) that will justify the existence of the fee as if it's too difficult to just print the final price in the menu.

I live in a touristy part of the world and effectively all restaurants above baseline level will have a "+7% service +11% tax" line.

To me this is clearly deceptive practice.

Derivative could just be "let CF append your Google Analytics tag and that funny cursor-follower script.

Perpetual is way harder to justify though.

Ok, this is crazy.

1. I open the dialog, "Dimensions" appears (it was already selected)

2. It fails to load the dimensions of a screenshot macOS itself took: https://imgur.com/ufs0UfZ

3. I close the dialog, the new fields disappear

To me this confirms that macOS is still a toy for Apple 20 years later.

Don't worry the next OTA will both restore the warning and change/remove the ability to disable it. It's the future!

New cars are painful to drive. So many alerts it's distracting.

NOW what?

Not anymore, I suppose: https://imgur.com/a/cGxXBiN

I just took this screenshot in macOS 18, same view (gallery)

Finder has always been crap. When Windows Vista came out, using Finder was like playing with a toy. IYKYK.[1]

Sadly, it has received effectively zero updates since. The only amazing things about the Finder are column view and QuickLook, both of which we've had forever

For reference, both Windows Vista and QuckLook came out nearly 20 years ago. TWENTY.

[1]: One example: you could customize it to show fields from your MP3 files, including the artwork, and *edit* the files inline. Some goes for EXIF. macOS, today, won't even show you something as basic the image dimensions (not file size)

This makes no sense. You can't force them to sell you the game. They'll just say "this is a 5-year rental" and that'll be it. The regulation can't even be retroactive

You're absolutely right, but I don’t think we'll ever get to a point in which what a car ships is better than what Apple ships. This only gets worse over time when you have a new iPhone and a 10-year-old infotainment system, it's just not possible.

Car automakers are not going to support your infotainment system (for free) even just 5 years down the line.

Even just thinking about the integrations gives me a headache (will my music app work on my car? how do I transfer my trip from Google Maps on my phone to my car?)

So the solution for today and tomorrow is to just stream your entire phone to the car.

You're saying that as if developers have cared about the platform in the past twenty years. Use JS, everything is possible, even turning a div into a link, apparently.

The worst sunburn I ever got was on a boat while overcast. I don't trust them clouds no more.

I don't know of anyone using sunscreen from the moment they wake up until they go to sleep. Guaranteed that even the best user will still receive a healthy amount of UV even if they refresh every few hours. As far as I'm concerned sunscreen is a 10am-5pm endeavor, not needed before or after

You're using AI to find issues, why are you not using AI to fix them? Issues are for humans.

Of course don't just spam untested PRs as that will land you in PR jail very quickly.
