Yeah I would recommend this too. I've only used Dell Optiplex Micro series, no issues so far. They use external PSU similar to those in laptops, which helps with power efficiency.

Something with 8th gen i5 can be had for about 100-150 USD from ebay, and that's more than powerful enough for nearly all self-hosting needs. Supports 32-64gb of RAM and two SSD.

The market definitely sucks in EU too. A couple of years ago I could choose where to work as a junior dev. These days as a senior I'm happy to cling into my current job, and probably couldn't find anything if I got laid off.

Fresh grads in most other fields aren't doing either, but at least they aren't oversaturated as badly as CS is. Only ones doing fine are medical and social work professionals.

I agree. As far as human interaction goes, school taught me that to anyone who is different has no rights, and that to become successful and popular you should aim to be a bully who puts others down, even through use of violence. Similarly, to protect yourself from bullies violence is the only effective method.

I'm not sure these lessons are what society should be teaching kids.

Climate change has the potential to radically change weather patterns, possible causing severe disruptions to global food production. If that happens, I guarantee you the likelihood of a world war will be even higher than today.

Besides, there is no real energy shortage. Renewables and nuclear work very well for most of Europe. The only problem are the Germans who thought being dependent on gas supplied by an insane dictator is better than operating nuclear power plants.

Banning phones is simpler, and has no downsides. You are at school to learn, you don't need a phone or tablet for that.

Besides, lots of things can be addictive and distracting. Personally I'm addicted to reading news. Had smartphones existed when I was a kid, simply banning social media and games wouldn't have been enough.

Not really. I'm yet to see statistics which show highly educated migrants who come for work causing major issues. It's only a particular type of migration that causes issues with crime.

The problem is not immigration or too many migrants, but rather the fact too many of them lack educational background you need to be successful in modern Western society. Mostly it's young men who arrived as asylum seekers without much education who fail to integrate and get marginalized.

I agree. Historically Russia has only respected force. Showing them enough force is the best way to encourage them towards serious negotiations.

It sure beats burning coal, oil or gas.

Society (and parents) still should have some responsibility on educating young people about career prospects of different degrees. Too many in older generations think any degree will land their children a job, and thus encourage them to study whatever they like.

For the vast majority of the population it was impoverished even before Castro.

Cuba is a pretty popular tourist destination, if nothing else. Cigars and rum are pretty big exports too. Definitely in another league compared to Haiti, as even communism beats anarchy.

There is some dispute on whether all those accusations were true, or politically motivated slander. Sure he did evil things by our standards, but there's no certainty whether he was that much worse than other rulers of that time. Taking slaves and hanging people alone isn't that special for the era.

To be honest he wasn't that murderous and inhumane by the standards of that time. Back then Europe was ruled by royals who were happy to kill countless of lives in useless wars. Columbus was no better or worse than average ruler/warlord or whatever of the era.

The act of sailing over the Atlantic and discovering the new world was pretty cool, what happened after that not. There is no need to make a hero or villain out of him.

I tried an L-theanine supplement for anxiety. It had a notable short-term effect, but when I was off it my anxiety significantly worsened. Got better once I stopped taking it, so I guess it was a dependency kind of thing.

So, I would say that it definitely has an impact. Perhaps it would have worked better with a smaller dose.

I agree. I'm building some internal tools at work, and htmx is awesome when you just want to add a bit of interactivity to server side generated pages. With minimum amount of code I can just update the view by returning the relevant parts from the templating engine. It promotes code reuse and is faster to implement than any other framework based solution.

Yep, what works for one may not work for others. Some people find L-theanine supplement helpful for reducing anxiety. For me it kind of worked, but then gave bad anxiety as a withdrawal symptom.

European social democracies may not be the best if you want to get rich, but for average Joe they offer superior quality of life compared to the US. IMO too much capitalism and socialism both suck, and certain EU countries have the best balance between them.

Good idea. I think kids in high school should also be shown some real stats about monetary outcomes from different degrees. Not BS marketing material from educational institutions, but actual statistics. The whole society would benefit if number of students in different fields would roughly match labor market demand.

I agree. At least in my country degrees are commonly used to filter applicants for jobs that could easily be done by someone with way lower level of education. That's not a healthy system. A degree should teach you skills that you need and can actually utilize in the work you will do.
