I think a lot of companies has been pushed out of business because of Amazon. It's a repeat situation of Wal-Mart. This is what happens when there's a monopoly. Payless wasn't very good in the first place so I'm sure that attributed a large amount to their dissolution.
Some companies would probably have more customers by merging with others. Like how HBO, Starz and others can be found on HULU. Although they didn't reduce their pricing through when doing that
