was lucky enough to snag the Olares One from Kickstarter just before this whole AI induced memory chip price gouging started.

specs are Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX (24 Cores, 5.4GHz),96GB of DDR5 5600MHz RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile GPU with 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM, 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD.

going to see if I can wring at least 5 tok/s.

for the first time, I'm rooting for the chinese to break the american monopoly on AI. although I have gemini, anthropic and openai subscriptions, I just opened an OpenRouter account and will be using more chinese open weights going forward.

Yes, the QL was another very clean modern design. Too bad the MicroDrives were an utter disaster and the sales tanked because of that

yes, I was about to build another gaming PC, and then I remembered the ASML machine costs 20 bajillion. Will wait for the ASML machine to come down in price, to around couple of grand.

There are alternatives. Amazon Leo is currently on a soft launch and will be ramping up over the next 12 months

It's a 997. it had the original OEM double din stereo with the Nav. Porsche offered the PCCM CarPlay upgrade, but decided the Pioneer unit was much better.

Yes, they were stunning. looked like a prop from bladerunner.

Same here. CarPlay is in the top 10 features for my next Car. Even for my older 911 which I bought second hand, the first investment was a Pioneer head unit with CarPlay.

Yes, I had the Apricot Xen in the shop. If I remember correctly, they were not 100% PC compatible, and did not exactly sell well. Neither did the Grids. But both were great conversation starters.

same here. seems all the years of q-tip use is saving me money by not needing to buy expensive Hi-End Audio gear.

used to sell the Apricots back in the days. The PCs from Apricot and Grid stood out in terms of design, from the rest of beige uglies.

Apollo is a private-credit and alternatives house, and Slok is a long-standing concentration/AI-capex skeptic.

no. the c64 was a toy. i used to sell them mostly as game machines, when I worked at a PC store as a teen. and yes, I used to also crack and pirate some of the c64 games.
